Did the sprint last year.  It was a decent race.  The race director was great.  It was the first year, so there were a few kinks to work out but should be better this time around.

As for the course itself, the swim is easy although I not a fan of the dirt and grime of the Ohio River.  Bike and run are nice and flat!

Good! Glad to hear the bike and run are flat. I was looking at some times from last year and was a little intimidated, but I can't seem to ride more than a quarter mile of flat road on my training rides and at just over 200# I'm no climber... Lol. I'm not too excited about swimming in the Ohio river but the site does say they have improved entry and exit from the water. How was the temperature?? Full sleeve wet suit, sleeveless, or tri shorts and top?

It was wetsuit legal last year and I was comfortable in a sleeveless.  The entry and exit were a little rocky, but not that bad.  I believe they did have a carpet at the exit.

awesome! Thanks for the info! I'll probably have some more questions pop up in the next couple weeks that I'll shoot you way.

One of them is, Do they mark off the bike/run course the day before? Will I be able to scope it out, or am I at the mercy of google maps? Also, how was the traffic conditions on the bike? The site says open roads with officers controlling intersections.

i can about promise itll be wetsuit legal. The water temps are really low this year due to colder weather running later into the spring. An example is knoxville last weekend, the water was at an all time low for that race.

I am not sure when they mark off the bike course, but I do remember it being a very simple, out and back course.  It was open to traffic last year.  The drivers were well aware of the race, since it was almost all on a straight road with no hidden bends.  I do, however, remember being caught behind a car once or twice.  But that seems to happen frequently in triathlons and you can just use it as a break and then go hard when it opens up again.

To emphasize just how simple and flat the course is:  Last year, I forgot my cycling shoes.  I ended up having to cycle with my Lunaracer running flats on my speedplay pedals.  If there had been any hills or technical aspects, things would have been very awkward.  Instead, I had a 21+ mph split and never had any issues.

Keep in mind, I am referring to the sprint.  I can't tell you anything about the rest of the Olympic course, but the part where the sprint and Olympic is combined is ideal.

Did the Olympic last year. There is one reasonably long hill on the olympic course, by Indiana standards. Not very steep. Turn around less than a mile later and ride right back down it. Pretty fast course.

Cut my foot on the swim, don't know how or if it was going it or coming out. A tri-veteran friend was smarter and got a pair of $2 flip flops from the dollar store and just kicked them off when he started swimming.

All and all, a nice race.

Thanks for the info guys!

I did this on Sunday. It was awesome! I finished Back of Pack, but I had a blast for my first tri, and I am now more motivated to get my times better!
