Pre-race routine:

I planned on this race to be part of a long training day. I rode the bike for 2 hours early in the morning (3:30 am). My plan was to run the entire half-marathon at a comfortable, zone 1 pace... That would change... In a BIG WAY.
Event warmup:

Just a little loosening up after the 2 hour bike ride and one hour drive I felt a little tight.

Comments:

I decided at some point early in the morning that I was just going to say "fuck it" and go for a pr today. I just kept thinking that I am in great shape right now, I thought I was capable of a pr if everything went well and I figured I should just go for it with nothing to lose.

I started out the race at a moderate RPE pace, knowing that if I was going to PR, I'd have to average 8:42/mile. My 1st mile was 8:42 exactly, but it felt easy, so I decided to push harder. I truly went for it all today and completely emptied the tank. I literally ran as hard as I could every moment of the race.

At about mile 10, I started to go into a really dark place. I was hurting, but I refused to waste the effort I put in in the first 10 miles. I was able to hang on, and my the 13th mile, I swear I felt like I was on the verge of hallucinations.

I ran all out for the finish line to finish with a new PR!!!!

What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Walked a lot and took in some food.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think I should have worn a little less. I had on a short sleeve dry fit shirt under a long sleeve one. One less layer would have been better. If I didn't care about the long sleeve shirt I would have just dumped it.

Mike congrats on the PR. Nice job of pacing yourself through out the race and then pushing yourself through the last 3 miles of the race. You earned this one, great job again.
