Hey All...did a search on trunk bike racks before posting and couldnt find my answer so here it goes.

My passion for muscle cars and love for triathlon dont match up too well. As we all know, being a triathlete requires a car with ROOM. Well I reall really want to get a new camaro but they are worthless when it comes to space. I used Thule's online tool to find what products they have to match a camaro, and they only showed a rack for the top, and i dont want to do this.

Point of this post...is can anyone recommend a good brand/model of a trunk mounted bike rack that fits almost any car? I will need this if I am going to get this car.

Thanks,

I have a Saris Bones 2 bike trunk mount rack and it is easily switched between out Impala, Mustang and Xterra with no issues.

let me see if I can help.  I am also a car nut as you can tell by the pictures.  I have the Saris rack as well.  It works great, I make sure the truck is clean before I put it on.  The feet have been designed really well and I dont really worry about scratches with them.  So on to the pictures...

How about a 400hp Cadivette with a bike rack...that good enough for a VROOM car for yeah.. Tongue out
"This gives me an excuse to pic hore..."

This thread couldn't be more timely for me too Laughing.  I have been looking at the Saris Bones 3 and I drive a Subaru WRX hatch (not STI though) and a Kia Sedona van, so there's a big difference in shape to accomodate !!  From your experience do you think it would be a good choice for both vehicles ?

Yes, as you can see above in my pictures I have the Saris bones 3 as well and it fits the Cadivette and my wife's Kia Sorento.  My brother in law borrowed it and it fit his honda civic perfectly as well.  They are great for adjustability.

I haven't done this myself, but can't you get a smaller hitch (not for towing) that will accomadate hitch mounted bike racks. My thinking is that the mount would be tucked far enough under to be abscured by the bumper.

I'm not a car nut and have 3 boys, so I'm thinking about getting a minivan and putting a hitch on it.

That's reassuring to hear, thank you !  All I need now is for it to be on a special deal somewhere !! Money mouth

I like my Yakima SuperJoe pro 3 better than my friends Saris Bones 3

http://www.yakima.com/shop/bike/trunk/superjoe-pro-3/

The Yakima is quicker to adjust when switching between cars, and I like the Yakima bike straps better.

If you put the smaller receiver (1 1/4") on your minivan and come to Vegas I'll give you my old Yakima Bighorn (I think).

Or if anyone else is in Vegas and wants it just let me know.

As we all know, being a triathlete requires a car with ROOM.

I use a Mini Cooper as my triathlon travel car. Just remove both wheels and pop it in the back. You can probably do the same if the seats fold down. In my other car (Corolla) I just need to remove the front and it slides in.

TriGuy, I like your Fox better.

As for muscle cars, I have a 2011 5.0 Mustang, and my bike fits nicely in the trunk sans wheels.

And it's not a Camaro.

Did I mention it's not a Camaro?  :D
