Subject: Jamestown Beach and water temps? Wetsuits question

I am coming to VA from GA to do the Jamestown International Tri with a family member June 8th. I anticipated probably not having to have a wetsuit for the race, as usually by that time of year you can get by temp wise without one.  I pick races as such since I currently don't own a wetsuit.  My fear with the cooler temps and such this spring is that the water temps will be a bit too chilly to go without a wetsuit for 1500 meters.  Thoughts?  Anyone familiar with swimming in that area have thoughts.  I'd rather not spend the $$ but if need be I'll rent one for the event.  Granted this is the time of year where 3 or so more weeks make a bit of difference in temps, but I am fearful the temp will be chilly and I want to have a plan/prepare before I leave GA so I'm not worrying about it all last minute.  I haven't been able to find where I can check water temp online for Jamestown Beach (or James River in general in that area)  anyone have a resource?

Thanks!

Heather

Not sure what the bay temps are right now, but the river temp here in Richmond is around 65degrees.  Are you comfortable in colder water? If you have never used a wetsuit you may be more comfortable without it and wear a doubled up cap to keep the head a bit warmer--if you are a fairly fast swimmer.....

You can check James River conditions here: http://www.jrava.org/jrw/

Looks like Jamestown has water temps of 68 right now.

If you are not in the market for. Wet suit then you can always rent one for the day. Water warms up quick if the nights are warm. It hasn't been the greatest for warmth. Renting is a great option. I've done it a few times before I bought one. Sleeveless is probably a better choice for Jamestown!

Grave digging here but I have been looking for a few years something that showed the water temp at Jamestown and this link listed above, http://www.jrava.org/jrw/totally rocks. Thank you.
