I put on socks for the bike. I've tried it both sitting and standing. Sitting is faster. However, if the TA is crowded, it's harder.

Good Luck at your race!

irondog - 2006-07-14 10:57 AM I admit I was one of the silly looking people with the bucket... It worked great for me... especially since I have not upgraded my bike shoes to velcro (they are laced). I also have terrible balance from an old back injury so bending over for tying shoes would likely result in me toppling over anyway. My husband takes great joy in catching me squatting to do things (like gardening, or washing the floor). He generally topples me over with one finger to the forehead.

Pick up a pair of Lock Laces or Yankz. They work great, once they are laced properly.

I sit. I can't stand wet feet, and I can't stand blisters, and I have to have my shoes tied tight or else they drive me crazy. So I sit down, dry my feet well, slip on my socks, then slip on and tie my shoes, then get up and go on my way. The same thing to put on my running shoes, I sit down to tie them. Probably wastes 20 seconds, but at this point, that is 20 seconds worth wasting!

Stand as no socks on the bike and if sprint distance no socks on the run. As others have noted by the time I get to t2 my feet are dry for socks then.

I have to sit in T! because I get very dizzy if I bend over to put on my socks and shoes.   T-2 is easier because I just kick off my cycling shoes and slip on my running shoes while I am standing.  I don't have to tie the laces because I have those stretchy laces.

Have any of you tried the baby powder trick? I know this from taking my kids to the beach and trying to get wet sand off their bodies before a car ride. If you completely cover your feet in powder, I mean really dump it on, the sand instantly wipes away and your feet are dry and ready for socks. I am a bit anal about the way my feet feel when I head out so it may help some of you who feel the same way.  It really works.

Newton's first law requires me to stay upright through transition. And, yes, I have used the baby powder technique along with rolling up my socks; works great.

Me too. I did my first tri last month and this worked great for me. I also have Yangz! on my running shoes so I was able to slip them on with no problem.

Another thing that helped me as to practice T1. My daughter sprayed me with the hose so I was wet like I was coming out of the water and then I ran through the grass to practice having dirty feet and worked on how I'd get my shoes on the fastest. I have toe clips on my bike so I was wearing my running shoes for the bike and the run. It really helped me to practice. I didn't have a split time but I swam with the third wave of swimmers and out of T1 I passed a lot of guys from wave 2.

Good luck with your race!
