Someone on facebook said they called Clinton this morning and they said it is 70. Others chimed in and said they have been out there and some were with wetsuits, others without. Either way was fine.

The pool where I workout was 73 on Monday and 72 yesterday. I had a wetsuit on Monday and did not yesterday. I was fine both ways but will have it on for sure Sunday.

I was out there last week when it was 68 and swam without the wetsuit. Definitely chilly at first, but fine after a few hundred meters. If I had the option, of course I'd wear it, but you will be fine without one. Maybe double up on the swimcap if you are worried about losing heat. It might help a little...

Reece. I have a Desoto as well. What do you wear on top if you are only wearing the bottoms? Dare I wear my TYR speedsuit over my tri suit and just the legs of the desoto on top of that? I havent swam in a tri top without a speedsuit over it in quite some time, so I dont know how much it will drag.

Jon, if you have a full sleeved wetsuit, it will be the fastest.  If you use the DeSoto, the top and bottom will be the fastest.  If you wear just the bottoms, the speesuit over the tri suit will be faster than the just the DeSoto bottoms and tri top.  If I had those options, I would wear the fastest setup because the water temps are cool enough to not overheat.  The Desoto bottoms and speesuit would be a bit much to take off in transition.

Yeah, I just have not been able to get much practice with the full sleeve wetsuit this year and I dont want my arms to fatigue half way through the swim. I will see how the practice swim goes on friday. I was planning on seeing how the KC Tri went with the full wetsuit, but we all know how that worked out.

I've swam in 72 degree open wate without a wetsuit so I'll be good with my one piece tri suit and the DeSoto T1 bottoms. Then in T1 I just plop my arse on the ground and pull the bottoms off. I've also worn a 2-piece tri suit with the bottoms only. Works fine. My kick/body position is poor so just having the bottoms suits me well. Swam 32 minutes and change at my last 70.3 like that.

Does anybody know if there are time updates online for friends/family to monitor race progress real time?

Yes.  If you go to the Kansas Ironman 70.3 facebook page and scroll down a little bit, there is a sponsor who offers an iPhone app to track triathletes in the race.

I went swimming on Tuesday at SMP without a wetsuit (mainly b/c I don't own one) and water to see how the water felt. It was cold at first, but I felt fine after I got going. In the two minutes it took me to get out of the lake and to my towell, I had already forgotten that I had been in cold water.

Heading up today to set up camp and to get a practice swim. Since it is going to rain overnight on Saturday/ Sunday, how are we allowed to cover our bikes? I know full covers aren't allowed, but we can cover seats and bars only? How will you guys do this?

At the 5150 in Des Moines last year there was a chance of rain the night before so I just put one small kitchen trash bag over my saddle and another over my bars.  Secured both with a little electrical tape.  Very simple.

I don't see it...looked all over the fb site...can you be more specific?

Maybe I'll just tell everyone to go to the KS 70.3 Site.

I've been told that Saturday bike check-in is no longer mandatory. Apparently at today's briefings they said we could rack bikes on Sunday. Has anyone else heard that? Some chatter about it on Facebook, but nothing official that I've seen.

Pushing the rain to earlier!  Looks like it will hit late Saturday evening through just after midnight, so plenty of time to clear out and allow for a great race!  Keeping fingers crossed!
