I just saw this on FB. I am going to be in NYC tomorrow for the Great Hudson River swim. I wasn't planning on going to Times Square. But now I absolutely have to. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2329993/The-largest-model-b...

So cool! Saw this last night on MSN, but my son was already in bed. Just showed it to him, and he couldn't stop giggling. He was in awe of the video showing all the details of the bricks. Then, "New York City? I think that's close to here." Sorry, honey. I wish! But now I know which set to get him for his bday next week (I only look at their ages as a "recommendation" since I love building with him.)

Just went by there. The thing is huge. They have life-size models of Boba Fett, r2d2, and a few other characters. It will be there until 7pm Saturday.

The article had a photo of a kid in the cockpit. How close could you get? Were people actually in it?

This attraction is too good to miss. Snce I'm already heading to NYC, the wife and kids decided to come along and see the xwing after the swim. The day is supposed to be rainy, so for the morning, they are going to see Epic in 3D right near the swim finish. This worked out perfectly. I love it when a plan comes together.

I didn't get on line to get up close with the models and the x-wing itself, but I could still get close enough to get some good pictures. I saw kids and adults sitting in the cockpit. I'll try to post some pictures later.

A sign in front said it took 5.3M pieces and three months to build.

If you're going to be in Times Sq, I suggest Virgil's as a post-race lunch idea.

Just got the official call that the swim has been cancelled. Expected high wind and small craft advisory and very cold conditions. It was going to be my first NYC Swim event. We are still going to go to the city for the x-wing. I can't get the kids psyched about it and then bail out.

Aw, crap. That's too bad--it's a really fun event but it wouldn't have been fun on a day like today. Why don't you stick to the plan of letting the family see the movie and you can go on a run up the West Side greenway or over the Brooklyn Bridge and back?

...or not....

  • ..or not....
  • Well, I got my bag and shirt, and met a fellow triathlete who came from Toronto. The wind was crazy.the cancellation was 110% necessary, for he safety of the boaters and kayakers above all else.

We have movie theaters here, so we're going tomorrow afternoon for a lot less cash. Instead, We went right to Times Square and got in the line for the x-wing. Totally worth it. We have amazing photos from all the displays. I'll do an album tomorrow of the good stuff and post it. Then we did Times Square tourist shopping. M&M, Disney, bootleg handbags on the street..... Then a walk to the Lego store where they were handing out free Han Solo minifigs. Told a family there about the x-wing. They had no idea. It was crazy packed. By the time we got out of lego store, it was after 4pm, time to get walking to the trains and get back to Hoboken. We could practically see our car across the river from the dock where the swim was supposed to start. Hoboken to Christopher St. on the Path is short as can be. Things just timed out well today. If this had been the longest OWS I was to do so far, I might be a lot more disappointed. But considering the NYC marathon and Sandy, The Boston bombing, Oklahoma tornadoes, and well, the existence of the war in Syria, the poverty of Haiti, I can't summon an iota of complaint for a day that involves me standing in line with my kids to sit in a giant toy in the consumer capital of the world. All cancelled races should end this well.

I just finished the NYC marathon on Sunday and I think I'm going to venture into triathlons. I am doing an Olympic distance and I want to do a 70.3 next year too. Any advice?

I have a torn labrum in the right hip that I'm getting surgery for this Friday. Also the doctor is grinding some bone that caused it to tear. Do you have any good ideas on returning to training?

I just completed my first Ironman season and I was free of injuries. I am now just messing around when I run at a fast pace (for me), I get a shooting pain in my right knee.

My right knee has a pain in the front, just below the kneecap. I walked 24 miles of IM Louisville. No pain while walking but it started immediately when trying to run.

Since my last marathon (October, 2007), the area below my right kneecap towards the outside of my leg (but not the ITB) aches every time I run, especially afterwards.

When athletes have an imbalance, either due to core weakness or in this case uneven terrain, this can produce strain anywhere along the IT band, but most commonly along the outside of the knee.

The ONLY way to compete in my first triathlon was to do it on my BMX. I’m no professional—nor do I aspire to be one, I just want to be fit and healthy.

One of my fears, besides the radioactive material content of the Hudson River, was the water temperature. I found the water was much warmer as I inched closer to the holding dock.
