Who's racing in one of the Calgary Marathon races? I'm doing the 10km distance and I hadn't realized until today that Simon Whitfield is entered in the same race!

I was there for his Q&A talk at the race package pickup. He's a very appealing speaker - modest and entertaining. Some of the things that I remember from his talk (and apologies to Simon if I have misrepresented anything that the said) ...
- Interesting story about the finish at the Sidney Olympics and how what really got him moving at the end was trying to avoid 4th place rather than trying to go for gold.
- Don't stretch. (He was pretty emphatic about this.)
- He doesn't strength train.
- He recommends running a little every day rather than fewer training sessions with higher intensity.
- He's not a thrill seeker going downhill on the bike and he still finds the open water swims a little bit scary

I'm racing in the Half Marathon (my first).

My wife is in the 10K (racing against you and Simon I guess!)

Best of luck tomorrow...

Was a beautiful morning for a 10K with thousands of others. Got to high five our mayor and saw Simon Whitfield as I flew by him on the course.......or I saw him briefly in the VIP area as I was looking for the bathroom pre-race, you pick which ever story you prefer

Breakfast at Moxies now time for a nap.

Hope everyone had fun.

A fun race with perfect weather. I saw Simon at the start but I couldn't keep up with him. Maybe next time. Looking forward to beer and barbecued shrimp tonight with ice cream for dessert.

Could not believe how nice the weather was today.   Calgary at its finest.  Was worried that it would be a bit chilly to start, but being packed in like sardines kept me warm.   Smile

Beat my goal for the HM -- took me a while to recover -- then I spent most of the afternoon eating everything in sight...

Next stop -- Chinook Oly!

He has a reputation of being a super nice guy. I raced against him at nationals in 2003 in Victoria... hardest tri swim of my life since the race was also a Pan Am cup ... Bevan Docerty and Peter Reid were also in that field. I was just trying to not get lapped out (last guy onto the run course, everyone else behind me was pulled out for being lapped)

My thanks to the triathlete community for being there when I need you. That’s the beautiful thing about triathletes. None of us are all right, and no one expects anyone else to be.

My expectations for the quality of this years’ Triathlon world championship were fulfilled. This was because of the superb location that is like no other along with having the top triathletes present.
