Total Time = 1h 00m 7s
Overall Rank = 65/191
Age Group = 19-U
Age Group Rank = 1/4
Event warmup:

Light, half mile jog. Felt too cold to do anything.
Swim
  • 08m 52s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

Really, really hard to swim in that ocean. Freezing cold; right when i went under I felt like I couldn't breathe and it lasted that way almost the whole race. Unstrapped part of my wetsuit from my neck to help breathing. Probably should've just swam backstroke.
Transition 1
  • 03m 13s
Comments:

Hard to do much, really. Again, freezing cold temperatures.

Took me 1:05 to do it practicing all this week. Had to take my time though because I needed to dry off and throw sweatshirt on for the bike.
Bike
  • 21m 54s
  • 6 miles
  • 16.86 mile/hr
Comments:

Once again, tough because of cold air and strong winds.
Transition 2
  • 02m 24s
Comments:

Had to put socks on (usually do it for bike, not today. Wet from rain) and take sweatshirt off. Only real thing different about T2 today. Again, everything would've went much smoother if the air wasn't freezing.
Run
  • 23m 43s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

The run was the one portion of the race I actually felt comfortable in. Wasn't too cold anymore now that I had gotten used to it. Negative split it.
Post race
Event comments:

All in all, can't really complain with my time. Tough swim, freezing temperatures, very tight bike course and still managed to finish strong and place first in my age group by just over 10 minutes.

Definitely felt in good shape. Probably could've run more miles at the same pace. Felt strong.

Will do it again next year.

I'm doing the 22 week sprint tri program and the 2 mile bike ride it starts with is not very challenging. I see this as a opportunity to train the right way and challenge myself. Any ideas?

This past spring I realized a few of us were heading in the wrong direction physically. We were getting together for poker games and kids’ birthdays, but that was it.

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

Already a cyclist and not a bad swimmer, I figured all I had to do was build up to running a few miles and I’d be ready to go. The challenge invigorated me, and I ran out to buy new running shoes.

Ever since I’ve started training for this triathlon, I’ve noticed some subtle differences between me and my friends who are actually VFT’s (Veterans of a Finished Triathlon).
