Subject: Fall triathlon suggestions in TX?
I am competing / participating in a sprint triathlon in Katy, TX at the end of July (Jeff & Brede's). I would like to step up to something bigger after that, sometime in the fall, for example Galveston in Sept.

Any suggestions for fun / good events? I live in The Woodlands (north of Houston) so within a 2-3 hour radius would be great (sorry, Amarillo).

There's a lot of options depending on the distance you are looking for. Use trifind.com to see what all is out there.

I personally think the Kerrville Tri Festival in late Sept is great. They have a half and oly, and the course is outstanding.

This series of events is always a good bet in the Houston area:

You also have the Out Loud events:

This production company is new and still working out some kinks but worth a look too:

Being an Austinite I highly recommend Tri-Rock Austin which has an Olympic and sprint and is on Labor day. There is also my personal favorite Ironman Austin 70.3 if you want to step up the distance, which is end of October.

Aaron, you're killing me with the date change from the end of September.  I'm doing IM Canada the week before so there's no way I can do the Houston Tri the next week.  Can you move it back to the end of the month for me? Wink

I might next year. We will see how the date change goes this year. It was more about splitting the races to 2-days instead of just one. Makes it easier on a lot of fronts plus allows us to have more people race. We will see how it goes. Good luck with IM.

If you want to make the drive to Dallas, Dallas Athletes Racing has some amazing races.

I'm a big fan of their Monster spring tris. "Swim, bike, run, scream!"

Houston Tri in Sept is a good race. Hopefully the weather is better this year.

I agree with Djastroman Kerrville is a great time, the olympic is flat and the run is good. Great area to vacation, Also, Tri Rock in Austin is good. Bastrop has a tough short sprint Tri.(hardest sprint you will ever do). Iin October in New Braunfels there is a fun Du at the Caves. The run is started in the caves, very fun. In Houston I here good things about Onurmark. Many choices in TX. I did the Katy Tri, it was OK, parking was tough.

A great triathlon in Tyler. It's a sprint distance, though with a longer swim than most (800m) and some hills (challenging for beginners) on the bike. Well organized and a fantastic food spread the last time I did it.

It's the regional sprint championship this year so it's likely to attract a fairly serious triathlon crowd.

Fall's also the time to shop! In fact, now's the best time to retool some of your triathlon equipment for next year, right before the Christmas season begins to jack prices upward.
