Master 3888 Overland Park, KS | Subject: RE: 2013 Shawnee Mission Park Triathlon - Training and Race Originally posted by jlpete98 Well, it's a lot hotter and more humid here than in Colorado. My body doesn't like the adjustment or maybe it was all the booze and bar food. I hope to make 1:30 and not walk the course. See you racers out there Sunday. I think I will be preparing for race day by having beers at the sporting game Saturday night! 1:30??? Yeah right, hung over you'll go under 1:10, you'll probably thrown down a sub 1 hour time after passing a bunch of us on the run. |

Veteran 419 | Subject: RE: 2013 Shawnee Mission Park Triathlon - Training and Race We did good as a group. Patrick, mark, Reece and myself all placed in our AG. I know others had great races as well. Got to meet a few other BT racers after the race, barkeep and Corey, good day to race. |

Master 3888 Overland Park, KS | Subject: RE: 2013 Shawnee Mission Park Triathlon - Training and Race We had at least 8 BT'ers out there Sunday, one of these days should take a group picture, get it posted on the BT website. Pete asked me Saturday night what my plan was for Sunday. I told him, go hard on the swim, hammer the bike, bonk on the run. I executed that to perfection! BT'er mikec123 took 2nd OA in the short course behind that Andregg kid, nice job Mike. Great job on the top 10 finish/AG podium on the long course Partick, good swim as expected but 22.5 mph on the bike, that's moving! That awards ceremony was a hoot! That guy on the mike was doing things in random order, then they ran out of awards or something. Pete got 5th OA in the short course, should have gotten an OA award but got the AG 1st place award instead. I think they ran out of hardware or something, very atypical of JCPR. |

Veteran 1127 Shawnee | Subject: RE: 2013 Shawnee Mission Park Triathlon - Training and Race I really enjoyed this event. Since I just did a part of a team, I didn't have any jitters to speak of and really was able to just relax and enjoy the event. I got to meet Reese which was cool. I was standing by the swim exit and heard some guy in a wide rim hat yelling for Reese to stop running so slow (he wasn't). Then I got to yell for him as he was starting the run. Jayhox, I don't think I actually introduced myself but we talked briefly...I was showing you the results on my phone. Overall, it was a fun event. I've never really had much interest in this event (for some reason) but now I can see why people like it. I'll consider it next year. It's a good spectator event since there are several opportunities for spectators to see during the swim and the bike. I also liked the tatoo/stickers for the swim caps. I know some peeled off, but since the swim was so close to the boat dock (coupled with the TT start) my family and teammates were able to spot me in the swim much easier. My team did pretty well. I swam a 1:41/100yd which I was ok with. I have really struggled with relaxing and getting into a groove during triathlon swims and my swim times have shown it. So this was good for me to focus and hopefully I can keep improving next weekend. We hung around for the awards ceremony (our runner finished his long course run in 27:34) since we didn't really know who else was competing and thought we had a chance at something. Little did I know that a raging bull swimmer threw down a 12:49 swim time (1:10/yd) and then their cyclist did more damage averaging about 23MPH. Even with the fast run, we were roasted...ha ha! Overall, BTer's took home a lot of hardware...probably more than the ragin bulls team. If the KS BT group had a racining team, it would look pretty impressive. Great job everyone. |

Extreme Veteran 1279 | Subject: RE: 2013 Shawnee Mission Park Triathlon - Training and Race Great races all around. Not much to add to what others have said. I have been working hard on the run over the off-season and it is really paying off this year compared to last. I have held off some people that I could not hold off on the run last year. I thought I had a good swim, but was 7th overall in the water. Have to work on that. ;-) dprocket, I remember you, but was in a crazy setting there by the results board and should have came back to talk to you more. Great races by Pete, Reece, Mark and others. My results:
9 out of 227

Master 3888 Overland Park, KS | Subject: RE: 2013 Shawnee Mission Park Triathlon - Training and Race Dave, I think I remember someone yelling my name "wide rim cap" guy I suppose, who that was, I'm not sure. That Raging Bull guy was Sandy Cohen, he's a great swimmer. I'm sort of glad he did the relay, otherwise he would be the owner of the 1st place AG award that's in my possesion He won the short course race last year so his bike and run aren't too shabby either. Hopefully I'll feel up to the long course next year, maybe pull a kid around the course, seeing those UCP folks do what they did was pretty inspiring, you could see the joy in the childs eyes at the awards ceremony. |

Veteran 310 Kansas City | Subject: RE: 2013 Shawnee Mission Park Triathlon - Training and Race Great to see you guys yesterday! I had better race than I should have considering I've ridden about 30 miles this year and haven't swam since this race last year. Great, fun little race. I may try and do some actual specific traing and do Jackson Co. next month! Not really enough time to do any good, but it couldn't hurt! Oh, and maybe not race the day before. My calves are in a tragic state today. |

Extreme Veteran 695 Olathe | Subject: RE: 2013 Shawnee Mission Park Triathlon - Training and Race If only I wasn't getting slower on the bike despite more riding... my theory is that I have lost so much weight (raced 190-195 in 2010 and now 170-175) that I lost all my downhill momentum. Climbing is easier and the run is a heck of a lot easier, but I was not faring as well on the bike as I wanted. It also didn't help when someone on team Raging Bull passed between me and someone I was overtaking despite a wide open left lane and cut me off. I guess he wanted to draft as long as he could and keep his line... safety is secondary to getting the job done, eh? Overall I did better, but trading bike speed for improved running I guess. Good to see the BT'ers showing up. And, thanks Jon for yelling at us on each loop. I'm notorious for not acknowledging cheers while racing, just ask my wife. |

Veteran 310 Kansas City | Subject: RE: 2013 Shawnee Mission Park Triathlon - Training and Race I'm not much of a rider, but some of the courtesy and bike handling was kind of sketchy yesterday. Especially when I hit the Dam the 2nd loop. I tried to give the fast guys as much room as I could while trying to get clean and get as far right as I could. Ended up passing more on the right than is probably prudent. Passed though the middle WAY more than was prudent, but wasn't given much choice. Lots of folks on a short closed course I guess. I saw you when I was coming in Ryan, but didn't get a chance to catch back up to you. |

Extreme Veteran 424 Lenexa, KS | Subject: RE: 2013 Shawnee Mission Park Triathlon - Training and Race I had a great time out there ! Once I got home, I checked this year's time vs last year's time and.....they were exactly the same. 1:58 for both year's long course races. Not bad considering I have only swam once since last years SMP race. Had a fun time on a perfect day ! |
