Tri On The Run
85F / 29C
Overcast
Total Time = 1h 27m 57s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 5/7
Pre-race routine:

Ate oatmeal with raisins and protein powder, drank OJ. Got there real early as my wife and daughter were volunteering. I had a bit of spare time to chat.

Age Group = Clydesdales. The C-dales are split out from the AG'ers. So I'm not sure how I ranked overall....though I can guess in the back 1/4....LOL.
Event warmup:

Swam a 100 and stretched some. Chatted with a lot of people.
Swim
  • 05m 9s
  • 300 meters
  • 01m 43s / 100 meters
Comments:

My best swim ever. I even was held back by some people. We were seeded by our times and I need to bump it up now to about 5:10 instead of the 5:30 I put down. I think I can do it around that and only be slightly out of breath coming out. If I have a longer distance I'll have to slow it down some.
What would you do differently?:

seed myself higher.
Transition 1
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

Flying mount went fine.
What would you do differently?:

nada. It was a good transition.
Bike
  • 48m 51s
  • 15 miles
  • 18.44 mile/hr
Comments:

I did my best on the bike. The wind mentally kicks my butt. No excuses, I did what I could and the speed tells it all. I came in a bit tired. I pushed hard, but I'm about ready for something different - aero bars, a new seat or a tri bike.
What would you do differently?:

A lot more focus on the bike!
Transition 2
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

I had to take4 a few seconds to move the 'neighbors' bike over. We were just squeezed in too tight. But, I was tired from the bike and taking my time, honestly, to catch my breath.
What would you do differently?:

more bricks!
Run
  • 31m 16s
  • 3 miles
  • 10m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

I was tired on the run. I have been running a lot more the last two months than I was at this time of the year but I don't feel like it showed. Plus, it was starting to warm up. It's that time of the year in Texas. Uggh. :-)
What would you do differently?:

more focus on bricks. More time in the warm temp
Post race
Warm down:

Walked, drank a lot of water

Event comments:

I PR’d this by about 5 minutes from last year, so I’m proud of the accomplishment. I just feel like I have more I can do. To give credit where it’s due, there are some fast people that come to this race.

This is an excellent race put on by a top quality RD. It just had its 19th year running and I’m sad to see Jana retire herself from it, though it sounds like someone will continue to maintain the race and name moving forward. It’s very beginner friendly. It has the challenge of being during the weather transition where it’s starting to heat up each week in May. Thank goodness it was overcast.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.
