Comments:

First ever ows, and definitely was a shock. Held back at the start to let the rest of the group get ahead of me. Visibility was near 0 which I thought I'd be ok with from diving, but it was very unnerving. Added in some side stroke and breast stroke for sighting and just to calm the nerves.
What would you do differently?:

Do more ows training.
Transition 1
  • 02m 31s
Comments:

Still spending too much time getting out of T1. I just need to get quicker with everything
What would you do differently?:

Need to train riding with no socks.
Bike
  • 48m 41s
  • 14.91 miles
  • 18.33 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike portion felt very good. The new positioning from my bike fitting definitely opened me up and had me feeling a lot more comfortable. Still need to work on my stamina.
Transition 2
  • 01m 57s
Comments:

First race with my lock laces. Much easier than tying them, but took a little getting used to.
Run
  • 35m 44s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

Had to walk about 1/4 of the run due to cramping issues. I was able to pick up the pace a bit this time when I was running with no knee issues so that was a good sign.

That water was super rough. Worst one I've ever done! (and I've been doing tri's for 10 years.) So give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done!

This past spring I realized a few of us were heading in the wrong direction physically. We were getting together for poker games and kids’ birthdays, but that was it.

I went down to the beach the day before to scout out the course, and it was glorious...the sun was out, the sea was as smooth as glass, and only a hint of a breeze was blowing. “Perfect,” I thought.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!
