Comments:

The cold water got me, going up the 1st climb, my glutius maximus tightened up on me like NEVER before!!!! I almost had to stop pedaling! I panicked! When I got to the top of the hill, I stopped and tried to stretch them out, wasn't gonna happen. I KNOW I have to warmup before hand. For some dumb reason, I didn't and it cost me. I stopped 7 times during the bike leg to stretch. I just kept it aerobic and turned it into a training day.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

NOT WARMING UP!!!! This was a live and learn race. I have known for a long time that I have got to warmup before races, especially when it's cooler out. The cold water gets me. I had to go to plan Z. I just kept it as aerobic as I could and made it a training day. It wasn't easy but I tried to stay positive and make the best of the cards I was dealt, although i dealt them to myself by not warming up.It was strange to place 1st and have had the 2nd worst race to date. BUT, I finished, pushed through and never even thought of letting the Q word enter into the equation. It is what it is.

Same thing, just kept it aerobic. I stopped a few times to do toe touches and squats to try and stretch out my booty, but it wasn't gonna happen.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

Have a goal when you get into the water. If your purpose is distance, then set your pace for endurance. If your objective is speed, then incorporate drills.

"I was wondering if this is a sensible approach? Should I get "better" on short distance and then move to something longer or do what I want if I feel I can do it whatever the time?"

Bricks refer to training on two disciplines during the same workout.
