Going to Show Low for the weekend and wondering if I should bring my bike. We are staying in Torreon, which looks like it is across the 260 from Fools Hollow Lake...is this a good place to ride, and if so, how would I get to the park from Torreon (good route to ride from our house). Thanks so much!

There is an road race/crit omnium up there this weekend, with a 60-mile citizen's ride on Saturday morning: http://bikethebluff.com

Would be up there myself if not for the fact that I'm moving.

good to know! Even if we are driving around that morning :-)! Looks like a great race!
Not sure if I'm up for 62 miles at altitude and would have to take the aerobars off my road bike (and TT bikes aren't allowed).
Will have to keep it in mind for future options! Thanks for the info!

Bump

I'm headed up to Pinetop this weekend to escape the heat and am also looking for a good route to ride (have to knock out a 3 hour ride). Any and all suggestions are welcomed. Thanks!

I didn't end up riding while we were there, but got some good suggestions on the BiketheBluff website...the route that they posted would be a good one. Fools Hollow Lake Rec Area is on the N side of the highway as you are coming into town. Enjoy the cooler weather!

I think I rode with you for a few miles Saturday morning. Hope you enjoyed the cooler weather and thin air. Good meeting and chatting with you on the road!

Yep! Good meeting you as well! I really enjoyed my ride up there and am looking forward to getting up there again the weekend of 8/2. Let me know if you're around and we can get a ride in.

Thanks again for your suggestion. I did a couple loops of the 22-mile course and it was excellent. Rolling hills with a couple sustained climbs. I really enjoyed the ride along Lone Pine Dam Rd - back country w/ very few cars.

Glad it helped! I'm actually heading back up there in 2 weekends and will definitely bring my bike this time. Going to take my own (and your) suggestions to get a couple hours ride in ! Anyone else going to be up there? Thanks for the input!

As the fog cleared, the buoy that I first saw earlier in the morning was just the first marker in a very long line of buoys that stretched across the lake like a runway for a 747 jetliner.

A lot of us don’t spend too much time worrying about stretching and strengthening exercises for our lower back.
