Anyone here swimming in Cedar Lake?

My morning commute takes me along the lakes and I've witnessed a few people swimming from beach to beach.

I'm thinking that after Grandma's Half this weekend I may pit stop at Cedar during my commute.

Maybe Nokomis on Tuesdays for the scheduled open swim and then Cedar Thursday mornings.

Anyone interested?

I have swam in Cedar Lake before, but it's not my favorite.  Since it's so small, it can be pretty warm. I know folks who swim across, but just for the sake of being upfront I should mention that is illegal

I have been running by there and I thought the water looked really stagnant and unappealing.  Maybe that happens every spring/early summer, but it was gross.

If I was going to swim in that area of town, I'd go to Calhoun.  That's just my gut reaction to what I've seen, so if you do swim there and like it definitely report back.

Calhoun gives me weird ailments such as stomach pain and watery eye. I prefer Harriet, Nokomis, or Christmas.

Re: Calhoun - Yes, and I'm not the only one reporting weird reactions to the lake. I don't have issues while I'm swimming, but feel ill after.

That's such a bummer   - the clarity of the water is so nice.  Oh well...

I usually swim there once a week or so. On the south side once you get beyond the roped off area the water is actually quite clear. I'll admit it looked a bit sketchy last week but I had no issues once I got past the roped off area. I usually swim from the buoys to the fishing dock and back. I have never experienced any illness. I know there is a group that swims there every morning before work and you can usually find one or two people swimming across the lake in the evenings. Personally I prefer Cedar because it is close to home and it is not too crowded. Just my 2 cents.

Cedar Lake is getting less and less appealing as each day goes by

The amount of green sitting on the surface is only getting worse.....It also looks like a section in the middle is trying to form all the way across from West to East......

I'll probably just stick with Nokomis and LA Fitness for now.

I'm doing the Nokomis sessions on Tuesdays but want another open water option and was thinking about Thursday mornings at Cedar. I did several Thursday mornings 3 years ago but that group fell apart.

If you are calm while everyone around you is losing it, you probably don’t know what the hell is going on.
