Beneroya Research Institute and SeaFair
70F / 21C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 49m 48s
Overall Rank = 1017/1180
Age Group = 34-39
Age Group Rank = 83/96
Pre-race routine:

I usually have a Green Tea Latte but couldn't find a SBUX open. :(
Had peanut butter and jelly on wheat toast

Got to the race around 5:50AM...so got an end spot on the transition area. That's why I go early!
Event warmup:

Got in the water 20 minutes early. Swam a bit. this is what I had not done in prior races..and it seemed to help!

Swim
  • 25m 6s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 51s / 100 yards
Comments:

While I was slow, I swam the entire course without stopping. Did not freak out at all, just slow and steady. Considering my last two Tri's had less than 125 people and this one had 1180, it was good. there were a couple of times I got off course due to people crossing in front of me. I swim straight..so not a problem for me.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing....for my first 1/2 mile swim thought it was AWESOME!

Transition 1
  • 04m 47s
Comments:

Ok, here's where I need to not doddle. WOW almost 5 minutes....
High maintenece. had lots of grass on my feet that I wanted to wash off. Then I was slow to put on gloves....I know, should ditch those but my hands get tinglie when I don't wear them.
What would you do differently?:

work on getting faster...this was my longest transition time I think. I don't think I was this slow at Mose lake.
Bike
  • 44m 34s
  • 12 miles
  • 16.16 mile/hr
Comments:

Best avg speed yet...I am a turle and don't like working on speed. I am a very consistent 14.5 MPH gal. So, 16 for me is WONDERFUL. I am happy with my time and did well. While my Avg HR was higher than normal, I probably could have worked a bit harder, but all and all when I see the numbers, I am happy.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing for this race. But should start working on speed if i want to go faster and not get frustrated when others who don't ride as much as i do go faster. :)
Transition 2
  • 02m 44s
Comments:

Probably 30 seconds of this is from the entrance to the rack for my bike. I was a bit slow and didn't really run to the transition.
I didn't waste too much time here. But I did forget to tie one of my shoes....so had to stop and do that.
What would you do differently?:

nothing really, except check my shoes before i get off my bucket seat. :)
Run
  • 32m 37s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

pretty steep hill, but i ran the entire thing. Felt pretty good...hr did get up there!
What would you do differently?:

nothing....
Post race
Warm down:

none really, was feeling great.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My speed..or lack of speed work traing. :)

Event comments:

Had a GREAT time. Was happy I was able to do the 1/2 mile swim with no issues. Considering I have only been swiming since Feb, I feel GREAT. run and bike were good....
AWESOME day in Seattle!

I'll be planning on doing this one again next year.

Great job!  Way to stay focused during the swim.  That wave start is an amazing scene to watch.... let alone be part of

What a beautiful day for a tri.
