Veteran 265 Westminster, Colorado | Subject: It's Official - Ironman Boulder They made it official today: http://www.ironman.com/triathlon-news/articles/2013/06/ironman-boul... They also have the course posted: http://www.ironman.com/triathlon/events/ironman/boulder/course.aspx... That single loop bike will be a fun one. Now to convince my wife to let me do another one. |

Master 2500 Crab Cake City | Subject: RE: It's Official - Ironman Boulder I was out in Ft. Collins last summer for a work trip and absolutely loved it. Colorado is a beautiful state with great weather in the summer. I can only imagine how awesome this course is going to be. I am sure there will be a great pro field since alot train out in Boulder too. This one will sell out fast and I would love to do it one day. Altitude might be an issue for some though, I know it was harder for me to breathe the first few days I was out there. |

Extreme Veteran 990 Collierville, Tennessee | Subject: RE: It's Official - Ironman Boulder I love the area, but how could you train for this if you're coming from a sea level-state? You could be in great shape and have trained thoroughly, then show up and not be able to breathe in 1/2 hour. Would you go out and acclimatize like Kona? |

Elite 6387 | Subject: RE: It's Official - Ironman Boulder Well from someone that did the 70.3 twice in August.. this is no joke. It's not like you can do an IM in Vegas in August, but wow. The run is nothing short of a death march. Zero shade. People that do not live here, do not consider how strong the sun is and how thin the air is at 6000ft. I can't imagine doubling the distance. I will admit though... I am intrigued. If I was ever going to do one.... |

Expert 767 Littleton, Colorado | Subject: RE: It's Official - Ironman Boulder For those concerned about the altitude, keep in mind that Boulder is at about the same elevation as Tahoe. Powerman: yes, the run at the 70.3 is a death march, as there is no shade along that course at the Boulder Res. And the "Certain Death" sign warning folks to keep out of the canal doesn't help that impression any. However, the run for the Full appears to be in downtown Boulder, along the Boulder Creek Trail, so I would suspect more shade. Looking at the course, I would say the biggest challenge is going the be the climb up to Carter Lake. The rest of the bike course is on rather comfortable rollers (not as big as the rollers in Wisconsin). Outside of the climb to Carter Lake, it looks like a pretty fast course. |

Veteran 361 Colorful Colorado | Subject: RE: It's Official - Ironman Boulder I live and train in this area. The bike course looks pretty easy, and honestly, a little boring -- the climb up to Carter Lake is not that big -- 10 minutes or so. Its really a shame that the bike doesn't go into the mountains. The run along the creek path will be a LOT cooler and shadier than the 70.3 Boulder Rez run, except the eastern-most parts of the run (past Foothills Parkway) where its full sun. Looks like a nice run. I think the big variable will be the weather. Boulder in August could be 80 or it could be 100. And afternoon thunderstorms would make the run even nicer. August is bad timing for me, but how can I resist an Ironman so close to my house! |

Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: It's Official - Ironman Boulder So I guess they will do the HIM on Saturday and the IM on Sunday? Is there anyplace else they do that? Could be interesting to see how they coordinate the two. |

Veteran 265 Westminster, Colorado | Subject: RE: It's Official - Ironman Boulder Looking at the map, there is a good little climb right at mile 99. But the reward of that climb is an amazing view over Boulder with longs peak as a backdrop. |

But the reward of that climb is an amazing view over Boulder with longs peak as a backdrop. The mile 99 climb is very steep (steeper than Olde Stage) for the first 100 yd, but then eases off. In training, the climb around mile 40 always wears me down mentally for some reason -- maybe its that its right after a thrilling descent from Carter Lake (where you can hit 50+ easily), but it just seems to drag. |

From the registration page: The 2014 Boulder Tri Series will now consist of 2014 IRONMAN 70.3 Boulder on June 15th, 2014 Boulder Peak Triathlon on July 13th and 2014 IRONMAN Boulder on August 3rd |

I am a mental case when it comes to descents, and I am comfortable on all the "hills" along that route. They aren't taking the course up into the mountains, and this course has less elevation gain than WI, CdA, or Vineman, to name a few. |

Extreme Veteran 694 Highlands Ranch, Colorado | Subject: RE: It's Official - Ironman Boulder I agree that weather is my biggest concern. That being said, with a well shaded run and the potential for afternoon cloud cover/rain, this could be minimized some for the hardest and hottest part of the day. |

I have done over 50 on the HIM course... you just have to know how to keep your speed and tuck. |

AGREED!! Is it actually 3,100 by something like a Garmin? IM Wisconsin says ~2,900 but many say it's almost twice that. And they have the profile showing for the full 112, not just one loop. Other courses also seem list less on their elevation pages than people will get with Garmins. |

So is it twice as much wrong, or is IM Wis 2900ft for one loop. Also, I have never really had a problem I think, but it does not mean someone's Garmin is right either. I of course always wonder it that is all the "ups" added to gether, but on most thing Ido, my Garmin says what the course did around about.
Any guesses how soon this one will sell out? Being brand new and all? Am I to assume correctly IM got a contract like IMSG, or is this just next years and we will see? |

Could have picked a better example, but thought I should grab an IM. The HIMs I've looked at tend to be more like ~30-50% more than listed when people actually get out one them. Probably have to wait and see. Just a bit surprised I guess, as getting ~3,000 is entirely possible over here and no one would confuse the two areas! I wonder too about the smaller ups and downs being left out as well. Mapmyride seems to, and I'm not sure where MDot gets their info from. Could explain explain the bigger gap in Wisconsin. |
