Since there are several BT-ers doing the Chicago Marathon (as noted from a previous registration thread), let's discuss our training here. How are you doing with the running in week 2? Anybody have cool plans for this weekend's long run?

I'll be doing my 7 miles tomorrow somewhere in Central Illinois, near Starved Rock. Supposed to be a hot one so everybody hydrate well tonight.

(Here's what I have up on my wall to keep me motivated. Took the pic last week... today that 2nd row of 3's is X'd off.

Nothing exciting to report as of yet. Ran 10 miles on a tready @ Gold's gym-Gurnee on Sat AM. Was SOOOO hot/humid inside. I was drenched. was running on the tready cause it was raining outside. In hindsight I would have been better off to run outside in the rain.

This will be the 5th consecutive year running the Chicago Mary!

Hello all.

I'm using one of Garmin's 16 week plans, with the first workout tomorrow. This will be my first marathon.

Got a nice ~11 mile long run on Saturday, with a steady rain for miles 3 through 8 - came back soaked to the bone and feeling pretty good.

Did my 4 in the rain today. I don't mind running in the rain, but I'm getting a little tired of the extreme weather thunderstorm/high wind/tornado stuff.  Was constantly questioning my sanity this morning every time the thunder cracked.

That said, I would generally prefer to run in extreme weather vs. a treadmill. That 10-miler on a treaddy sounds awful! LOL.

I started with this week with my Runners World Break 4:00 or bust plan. I am also in the middle of my Racine 70.3 training so it will be interesting. I need to squeeze in 9 miles this weekend but I am going up to Madison to do two loops with a buddy who is doing IMWI this year so not sure when it will happen. Looks like the only time to get my long run in is Saturday night but I am not crazy about doing that then getting up at 4:00am to go do 80 miles. I just don't want ot get off to a bad start on my marathon training though. looking forward to after Racine 70.3 and I can focus solely on my running.

Nice work getting your run in the rain today. I am also getting sick of the weather. It was a 4 mile hill workout on the treadmill this morning for me.

I ran seven miles in the heat last night. I reckon I should get 9 in sometime this weekend.

Why not run 9 after the 2 loops. You could even run 7 and you'd be fine.

Mileage picks up this week. Thankfully I have a short work week.Wink  Doing the Lemont Freedom Run 5K on Thursday as a 'fun run' and hoping to get out to Darien again to run with the CARA group for 9 on Saturday. Feeling good so far and eager to get into the meat of this plan.

Did my 5 miles in St. Louis this weekend, in Forest Park. The inclines in that town are crazy. I'm glad Chicago is flat for the most part. My last 2 long runs have been very hilly -- thankfully they were both kind of short.

Have a great week of training, all!

laparoscopic gallbladder removal. Good news typically one of the quicker ones to recover from. Bad news is even though it was very successful it was more complicated than usual so it left me with more recovery time that usual.

Good news is this Saturday I got in 8 miles of walking and even a little bit of running. I am just glad I got some distance in.

I have that exact same pic (Your profile pic) Only it's me in the pic with Craig Alexander. Runners High & Tri 2011

Good luck in Lake Zurich! looks like they may allow wetsuits this year. I'm not in this go around.

haha I have that same pic too. I also have a pic with his bike at Chi tri expo last year.

I really wanted to do LZ last year and this year but thanks to illness both years I just too under trained. I might volunteer again though.

I am STARVING this week, which is weird because last week was a recovery week and overall mileage is no more than it's been during any other base-building since about January. Maybe my appetite somehow knows I'm starting a build week.

Hill intervals suck, in a good way That last night, plus this morning's 10 mile LSD, have left me a bit beat.

Debating about a 10k race this Sunday - I haven't raced a 10k before, so it could be fun.

heh heh.  I got a full 8 hours in last night and I'm not quite as hungry today. Maybe my sleep has something to do with it

I should get a training plan or something. I've never used one but I'm severely lacking motivation to do much of anything these days.

Super super sweaty 9-mile run today. Was out with the CARA group in Darien. THANK GOD for water stops. They are so nice for keeping the water ice cold. I'm really enjoying running with that group. Sad I'm going to miss them the next 2 weekends. Next weekend I'm doing the Waterfall Glen 10-miler race, and the week after that I have Pearl Jam at Wrigley Field on a Friday night... no way I'm waking up for a Saturday run on my birthday Wink.

I am in town for a week or two. Do you know if I can still run with CARA folks as a visitor?

Anyways, I am heading out in an hour for a 10miler... not feeling very confident about Chicago Marathon yet. These long runs take too much out of me. Going to stay on lake front trail and hope for some nice cool breeze.

I am with CARA. I am sure you can run with them for a week or so, I doubt they would mind. I ran with them a few weeks before deciding to join, wanted to make sure that $$$ was worth it

As for comfortability with the marathon, I think it's way too early to determine that. The long runs are supposed to be hard, you're training ... well maybe not grueling, but at least a little difficult.

I can't say it enough, the feeling of treading water for that final minute, helicopters over head, Mike Riley's Iron-voice over the P.A. - just awesome. I cannot believe I'm here!
