Swim
Comments: They started everyone in 15 yard increments. I caught the person in front of me midway through lap 2 and was able to draft off of him for most of the race. We ended up catching a woman taking up most of the lane. She did not want to be passed and I lost a probably 30 seconds trying to get around her. Finally finished and ran the 100 or so yards to the transition. What would you do differently?: Enter a more accurate swim time. I entered a 8:00 swim time. Transition 1
Comments: I had a good spot in transition right at the run-in from the swim. Putting on socks slowed me down a little. I just can't get used to riding/running without socks. Ran the roughly 30 yards to the bike-out. Several people were riding in transition, the boy scouts that run the race apparently don't enforce this with any sort of penalties or anything. What would you do differently?: Until I can get used to riding/running without socks, nothing. Bike
Comments: Lot a lot of time on the bike. The first several miles were good. The 1st climb was rough. Did pretty good up to the turn-around and then through the 2nd climb. As I crested the hill of the 2nd climb, my drivetrain seized up. Nearly fell off the bike. My rear der. got sucked into the cassette. I lost over 6 minutes getting it fixed/adjusted. Rest of the bike went pretty good. What would you do differently?: Not lose time due to a mechanical issue. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty smooth transition, lost a little time drinking some Gatorade. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Settled into a good pace pretty early. Hit the aid station took water and a cool towel, drank 1/2 the water and poured the rest down my back. Made it to the turn-around and passed the person in front of me. Hit the aid station on the way back and took the same as the first pass. Run was 0.25 long based off of Garmin, others noticed the same thing. What would you do differently?: I had way too much left in the tank at the finish... like usual. I need to learn to push the run a little more, I can hit 9:00 minute miles without blowing up over a 5K. I just need push myself out of my run comfort zone. Post race
Warm down: Stretched, picked up transition. Stuck around for awards. What limited your ability to perform faster: Mechanical issues on the bike, my weight, down 30lbs. from this time last year but still need to drop some more (240lbs. at the moment). Event comments: Seemed a little unorganized. Only refreshment post-race was the water I was handed after crossing the finish line. No fruit, nothing. Volunteers tore down transition and finish chute while there were still 2 competitors on the run. I know that they need to get things cleaned up, but those 2 competitors paid for a race and should be allowed to finish in the same environment as everyone else. Last updated: 2013-06-23 12:00 AM
