Age Group Rank = 2/12
Event warmup:

Show up early. stretch, and a pracitce swim to see hwo the current is.
Swim
  • 48m 4s
  • 1931 meters
  • 02m 29s / 100 meters
Comments:

Hardest open water swim I have ever done. The current with the chop was brutal. Still happy with my effort. The red turn buoy's were hard to see with the overcast sky's.
What would you do differently?:

Not much I could have done differently. Maybe work on sighting a little bit better and need some more training in dealing with a stronger current.
Transition 1
  • 04m 26s
Comments:

Good transition considering the long run and I dropped my garmin.
What would you do differently?:

not much... maybe run a little faster
Bike
  • 2h 40m
  • 56 miles
  • 21.00 mile/hr
Comments:

I am glad that I prerode the course. It definitley helped to have a plan on where to attack and where to relax. I did get slowed up a couple of times from people riding side by side, but no big deal. I really enjoyed the ride.
What would you do differently?:

My Garmin freaked out in Multisport mode so I didnt ahve my normal lap que's for nutrition.. Need to do a better job of focusing on timing of my nutrition.
Transition 2
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

I feel like I killed it in T2. Very happy with the results..
What would you do differently?:

I could always be faster.
Run
  • 2h 02m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

felt really good for the first lap... then the sun came out... dear lord it got hot... I felt my pacing was good but jsut started to run out of gas on the second loop..
What would you do differently?:

Need more hill training... especially on longer gradual hills....
Post race
Warm down:

Ice bath and then 20 minutes in the Normatec sleeves....

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of serious hill training in the heat... still very happy with my overall performance.

Event comments:

Loved this race. Need one more aid station on the backend of the run. I will definitely keep this one on the schedule.

Way to kill it out there!

Yes, that swim was one of the worst OWS swim conditions I have ever raced in.  I did he Oly and finished  the swim with a woman who had started the HIM swim at least 20 minutes ahead of my wave.

Those hills on the run course were brutal.  That switchback hill was one tough hill!

I just had a couple of problems, I could count the number of triathlons I had contested at zero. Secondly, I could count on one hand the number of times I had been swimming in the last 17 years.

Now, for the last 20 years I’ve always though that jogging seemed about as interesting as watching paint dry, and you know what? That’s how it turned out to be.

This is not an easy task, especially for the “9-to-5er” with family. But you can do it – all without sacrificing your marriage, job or family.
