Expert 994 Clio, MIchigan | Subject: Roll Call Caseville Tri 7/14/13 - Tri to Finish I know its still a little early yet, but i'm in for the half (my first). I rode most of the bike course yesterday as part of the Tour di Lago. This is the inagural year for the half, last year they had sprint and oly. Anyone else in? |

1 | Subject: RE: Roll Call Caseville Tri 7/14/13 - Tri to Finish I'll be there for the Caseville Half. It'll be my second HIM. I did the Tawas half last year and looking for some improvements this year. Any insights on the course? |

Expert 994 Clio, MIchigan | Subject: RE: Roll Call Caseville Tri 7/14/13 - Tri to Finish The course is pretty flat, wide shoulder, nice surface, with some gradual (very gradual) elevation changes. Its pretty straight forward out and back. It follows right along the water, and there are a ton of vacation homes all along, so heads up for cars backing out of very short driveways coming and going along the bike. If you're out of the water early, the wind should be pretty calm, but it can really pick up as the day goes on. I sent an email to the tri to finish guys, there will be an aid station around mile 23 on the bike, and every mile to mile and a half on the run. Water and Heed. The beach is very wide and i'm not sure how they are going to route people from the water to transition, but be prepared for a decent run up the beach Let me know if you've got any more ?s |

253 | Subject: RE: Roll Call Caseville Tri 7/14/13 - Tri to Finish The Tri to Finish guys, although new, are some of the best in the industry. This is coming from someone that has raced in 5 states, 3 IM, 9 HIM, and over 50 tris in the last 5 years. They will do it right! I am in for the half, undertrained, but in, and hoping to go around 5 hours flat. Ben |

Master 2202 Canton, Michigan | Subject: RE: Roll Call Caseville Tri 7/14/13 - Tri to Finish Hahahahah, I signed up for the half not knowing my work life would be turned upside down. I'm way under trained, and Ben you can't complain about being under trained if your looking to break 5. I'm looking forward to trying a Tri to Finish event. This will be my slowest HIM yet and I plan on doing an Aqua Bike if my knee acts up, if not I'll be doing a nice walk/run to finish up. Either way I'm looking forward to it as it will likely be my only race of the year. If I break 6.5 I'll be happy, but hope to be a little quicker. I know you two live a bit closer to the venue but were camping at the county park, arriving Friday and leaving Monday. Looking forward to a few brews after the race. Shortyy, I know we met a few years ago at ILRA (I think), hopefully I'll actually recognize you to say hi. Edited by rottieguy 2013-07-06 12:55 PM |

253 | Subject: RE: Roll Call Caseville Tri 7/14/13 - Tri to Finish Rottie, 5 flat is a pipe dream with the lack of training this year, but should have been possible on this course had I had time to put in the work. I am planning to drive morning of, two hours, but may look into camping. |

Subject: RE: Roll Call Caseville Tri 7/14/13 - Tri to Finish Rottie I am also signed up for the half. My bike or running shoes have not seen the outside since May 3rd. Like you my worklife has become my life, since january 14thmy average hours are 81 per week. I may drive up there as vacation starts when I get home Friday morning and hang around, no racing for me at all. It looks like a real nice course Good Luck Joe |

New user 47 Lapeer | Subject: RE: Roll Call Caseville Tri 7/14/13 - Tri to Finish I was reading their Facebook page and somehow the run portion of the Oly was 3 miles too long....out and back and it was 1.5 too long going out.... |

Expert 994 Clio, MIchigan | Subject: RE: Roll Call Caseville Tri 7/14/13 - Tri to Finish There were some last minute changes that really were not thought out well, but so far, tri to finish has handled them well. The swim, there was a very long wade to the start of the swim, which was due to the shallow water. This made for a very long walk back to shore from the end of the swim. Not much could be done about that, the entire county park beach was shallow. The bike, I think was flawless. The day before the race, the run course was changed due to the predicted temps for that day. The original run route was down a road with very little shade. They moved the run to a different road, which was fully shaded, however, for the half, 8miles of the run was thru loose sand. This made for a very difficult run. The Oly and Sprint runs were too long, however tri to finish has apologized to the racers and offered 50% off entry to next years race. The aid stations were also supposed to be 1.5 miles apart, yet they were much further than that. They did not have ice but had plenty of water and heed. One aid station did run out of sponges at about the 4.5 mile mark. Everyone from tri to finish I spoke with following the race was very open to hearing the criticism. I hope they learn from it. I would give them one more year to work out the kinks, as this was their first year for the half.
