DJ - You will be in the Dells hey? Ironically, I will be over there camping that weekend. Consider me there with bells on (literally, cow bells)!

What is swimming in Lake Michigan like? More like lake or more like ocean? Is it as hot as our water here is this summer? Any insight into the courses would be delightful!!!!

If you go on the USAT site and go to the nationals page you can there is now information out about the course. The last water temp was 69 and they are forecasting 70's - hopefully still wetsuit legal It should be pretty calm because the swim is in a lagoon although I think you go a little past the breakwater for the olympic. The course maps and elevation charts are online as well.

Okay, my biggest concern is that it be wetsuit legal! There, I admit it!

Thank you, and I will check out the details!!!

It won't be hot and it won't be too warm to wear a wetsuit.  I swam in the big lake on Monday morning and it was a touch under 70 degrees.  I was swimming in an open area and it was calm, but Lake Michigan is a big lake and can be rough.  The good news is your swim for this race is well guarded by lake walls and most likely will be calm.

i'll just add that the water temp will depend on the wind as well.  i did a triathlon in lake michigan a few years back and the water was on 50 degrees.  that was in the beginning of august.

DJ is right about the winds but the swim is sheltered so the temperature should not change much

Waves are posted!

I was looking at the swim course map, and it looks like the swim course goes under a footbridge not far from the start, and then in towards the finish - so two-way traffic. Can anyone reassure me that this is not going to be the bottleneck I'm imagining it to be? I wonder if that's one reason why the waves are so widely spaced.

I run over that footbridge regularly and I have a hard time believing that it will NOT be a bottleneck. Sorry!

Well, the more you know. At least I'll be ready for it. And I'm randomly lucky enough to be in an early wave, that should help.

This is going to be so cool!!! My wave doesn't go until 8:48 a.m. - I'm gonna want a second breakfast by then LOL!!!!

As long as I get to wear a wetsuit I will be one happy swimmer!!!

Also - Wisconsin natives - what are some of the things that we easterners MUST see or do while in Milwaukee! Fiance is already very excited about the beer situation and Harley Davidson.

Patti-
Are you staying in the downtown area? Since you mentioned beer, two great local microbreweries are in the area...Lakefront Brewery (a fun tour) and Milwaukee Brewing Co, which serves it's beer at the Milwaukee Ale House (nice outdoor patio on the river). The Milwaukee Ale House is located in the Third Ward which has other great restaurants, bars and shopping and is located near the race venue. The Harley Museum would seem to be a must visit for you. Our crowning jewel, the Milwaukee Art Museum with its Calatrava designed Brise Soleil (wings open and close throughout the day) makes for great picture taking and if you like art, great to visit inside. You'll be picking up your packet there. There is also, Bradford Beach and Brady Street (restaurants, eclectic shopping) and of course no visit to Milwaukee would be complete without visiting "The Fonz" statue! :-)

Hope you enjoy your visit to Milwaukee. Feel free to PM me if you have questions!

Racing the sprint.  I'm concerned about the whole wetsuit thing.  I don't have one that fits right now.  Think I'll be ok without one? Otherwise, I can try to rent one before I go.

I'm curious about the 'don't increase your run by more than 10% per week' rule. Is there a minimum mileage under which this doesn't apply?

Yes, the Dual is a little heavier than Cervèlo’s high end counterparts. But…the price is within reach of the masses and it still incorporates all of the design features that make a Cervèlo special.

Don’t forget this is an incredibly big year for sport with the Olympics back in Athens where the modern Olympics started, and especially triathlon to make its second appearance.
