Pirranah
49F / 9C
Total Time = 1h 39m 50s
Overall Rank = 57/191
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 9/10
Pre-race routine:

It waw my first duathlon so I did what I normally do for triahtlons stretch and did a prewarmp of about 1 mile run/jog and breathing exercises to open the lungs
Run
  • 21m 42s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

I was very conservative becasue I really didnt know what to expect, my goal was to have a conservative first 5k and try to have a faster 2nd 5k
What would you do differently?:

I would probably go out a little faster and keep up with the pack in fron of me
Transition 1
  • 02m 28s
Comments:

not a bad transition for it being the first of the season
What would you do differently?:

I would not put on an HR monitor or garmin, dont really need it for ride
Bike
  • 52m 29s
  • 15.5 miles
  • 17.59 mile/hr
Comments:

The course was what I expected its was tough on me becsue it was really the first ride I had outside due to the weather
What would you do differently?:

ride more outside prior to race and hit some hill training
Transition 2
  • 01m 42s
Comments:

Solid transiton, not a very long run to bike rack which is a plus
What would you do differently?:

again dont focus on putting stuff in transiotn like watch grab it a put it on while leaving transtion
Run
  • 21m 32s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

solid run pushed as best as I could, the hills the second time around were a bit tough.
What would you do differently?:

maybe push a little harder on the flats
Post race
Warm down:

stretched

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not pushing harder in the first 5k and lack of hill training

Event comments:

Good race. small in particaption but those who do come out are for real.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

My first duathlon was a success. I had so many fears before the race but none of those fears happened. And when it was all over, I felt I had accomplished something big.

Have a goal when you get into the water. If your purpose is distance, then set your pace for endurance. If your objective is speed, then incorporate drills.

This program should be used for an athlete who is new to duathlon and their goal is to complete a sprint duathlon without difficulty. The schedule consists of 3 workouts per week in each sport.

Don’t forget this is an incredibly big year for sport with the Olympics back in Athens where the modern Olympics started, and especially triathlon to make its second appearance.

"I was wondering if this is a sensible approach? Should I get "better" on short distance and then move to something longer or do what I want if I feel I can do it whatever the time?"

Bricks refer to training on two disciplines during the same workout.
