Mid-summer Reading Recommendations Thread (Page 2)

I am currently reading "Catch 22."  It's not new but it's good.

Also working on "The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao."  It's a little all over the place, story of an immigrant family, where they come from, and how they make it in NY.  Really great so far - about halfway through.

I keep attempting Stieg Larsson (The Girl with the ...) books, but I struggle to get into them.

I didn't realize Michael Pollan had a new book out, I'll have to check that out!!

I got several going right now...

Listening to some Stephen King novels on my runs and in the car.

Have Game of Thrones on my Ipad.

Just bought the remaining Clancy Ryanverse books I was missing.

Pulled Paris: The Novel by Edward Rutherford and Stephen Hawkings A brief History of Time and Universe in a Nutshell off the shelf and put it on the coffee table to remind me to get to them.

Since it was mentioned, I have been watching and rewatching many of the good WWII miniseries documentaries.

I STILL can't decide if I would have wanted to fight in hedgerows of France (especially when it got cold), the deserts of Northern Africa, or in the Pacific.  NONE seemed preferable. 

I actually just read my first Steven King novel last week- Apt Pupil. I loved the movie so naturally I wanted to check the book out. Holy crap...If you know how creepy and disturbing the movie is, I can tell you that it's sugar coated compared to the book. I still really liked it, but be forewarned!

As a sidebar, that novella was originally released in 1982 with three others in a great collection called Different Seasons. Two of the other novellas turned out to be the greatest (IMHO) King adaptations to the screen ever: The Body, which became Stand By Me, and (Rita Hayworth and the) Shawshank Redemption.

i am DEVOURING wild:  from lost to found on the pacific crest trail.  this book is awesome and makes me want to drop everything and backpack.  it is a memoir style book about a woman hiking the PCT after losing her mom to cancer.  just fantastic.  hope the end is as strong as the rest of the book has been.

Enjoyed that one too. It's being made into a movie, starring Reese Witherspoon, to be released at the end of this year.

reese witherspoon?  terrrrrrible.  but who am i to talk.  i definitely found this book cause it's on Oprah's list...
