Looking for some suggestion on new tires for bike? What are yall running and if yall are happy or not? Looking for something that is fast but dont really want to worry too much about flatting because i hit a pebble!

By no means an expert, but really like my Continental GP4000s'. Seem fast and have been pretty durable. Bought them after doing some interweb research. Seem to get good reviews.

You'll probably get about 27 votes for the Conti GP4000S.  I use them, and are very happy with them both during training and racing.

I'll go contrarian--I have had good luck with Michelin Pro3 Race (now Michelin Pro4).

I *think* you will find somewhat general consensus that Michelin Pro are great for racing but wear a bit more and are a bit more puncture-prone than Conti Gatorskins. But Gatorskins are slow, so the GP4000's are a fairly common compromise.

Have had some great wear on a set of Vittoria Rubino Pro's. Spent $40 for a set, 1440 miles on em at the moment, no flats and still look like maybe another 1000 left. Great tire for the price!

if for training, the Gatorskin is still a nice choice.

slow but low cost and pretty resistant to flats.

I'm not sure this is correct.  The Michelin Pro 4's have multiple varieties with several being anything but racing...

Conversely, the Pro 3's are still readily available and have one theme and one theme only.....racing...

I'm a big fan of Pro3's for racing however training they just don't last...

I'm trying to determine whether I try Vredestein Fortezza's for racing and maybe a little training based on my Pro 3 experiences...

Not wanting to put all of my eggs in one basket, I have both the Contis and the Michelin Pro Race 3s and am not a good enough cyclist to tell the difference.  Love them both.

I'm no expert but have ridden enough miles over the years on various tires and the Pro 3's are smooth, grippy and wear fast...

However I'm the tire buying equivalent of someone going to the local running store and wanting to try on the shoes that I liked the color of first...

If the GP 4000s had color options I'd have them on my bike right now....Because they don't I'm considering Vredestein Fortezza's as some feel they're better than Pro 3's regarding wear AND feel...

GP4000s. As far as anyone can tell they offer the best combination of aero, rolling resistance, durability, and ride quality of any tire out there. Sure there are a fewer faster tires, but none with the same durability.

Ditto. And I think the GP 4000's are much better in wet conditions than the MP 3's I was using. Those MP 3's are SLICK.

Hmm...

Interesting myth/rumor that the S stands for schwartza in German which I knew the word, not the intent in GP 4000S.... In your opinion is there validity that the S version actually has a compound unique from the 4000's with color options?

Or perhaps my reading comprehension isn't picking up sarcasm from the article's writer...

So now I'm wondering if I take a stab at the GP 4000 color options or wait until the GP 4000S II are available???

the black chili compound is not currently found in the colored GP4000 (no S) tires. there is a measured difference.

So it's worth waiting for the GP 4000s II's because they'll have the magic black chili sauce (per the article)??

i picked up the 4000s from some site coming out of the UK, forgot which one and i love them. I never had the luck with the pro race 3, flatted quite a few times. so far so good. i picked up the pair for about 55$ where at the lbs they are 75$ a piece!! I am all about shopping local, but im sorry with that much of a price difference i will wait 4 weeks for shipping anyday!

Another vote for Continental GP4000s.

Consider 25mm width if you are heavy (which I will randomly say >175-180 pounds).

I bet that was PBK (probikekit.com). Great store and usually some pretty amazing deals. But you can't order from them if you're in a rush... shipping can take a few days or a few weeks, just never know (I've received stuff I ordered on a Thursday the following Monday, that was to NJ) and I've received it in 3 weeks (that was in NH). Also, you get subjected to customs charges as well. Seems to happen only when you place an larger order (I had an order for well over $1000 and got slapped with customs...)

Back to tire question... you guessed it, Conti GP4000S. Although if you go tubeless, Hutchinson Fusion 3's are pretty amazing as well...

I'm 220, pretty much muscle (power lifter for many years, still lift for overall health) so 10 pounds is about the max I could take off...

Do you recommend the 25MM for comfort or durability (or both)?  I've never had anyone suggest a bigger sized tire before so I'm interested to hear more..

I run 23mm and am 181lbs

I used Michilin Pro Service 3 and they were great and gave me a very good feeling when cornering since they were so soft but the wear was fast

I use Gatorskins now and like them too. They are a bit heavier feeling but the confidence of not changing a flat everytime you hit a pebble is good.
