Subject: First Tri Bike
Hello, I'm a new beginner triathlete (hence why I am here). I have done two sprints so far this year using my current road bike '11 Felt F3. I am in the market for a tri bike but on the fence between a few brands.

Quintana Roo CD01 Ultegra
Cervelo P3
Kestrel 4000 Pro SL

I have test rode the QR but not the other two. I've heard Kestrel's run big and I am not tall (5'6"). I would prefer to stay away from an XS bike with 650 wheels. The QR I rode was a S and had no issues.

I would love feed back from the community and if there are any other brands worth looking into I would love to know.

Thanks!

Highly recommend getting a bike fit first and the start looking for a bike that fits YOU.

It's very unlikely that a XS QR would fit you... More than likely too small.

Thanks. FYI I said I want to stay away from XS small bikes and/or bikes with 650 wheels.

That's exactly my point. That statement says to me that you have considered that you may need an XS (with 650's) which is very likely not so. In other words, I don't think you know exactly what size you need. And don't take that as an offense, many beginner triathletes buy bikes that simply do not fit them properly. The reason why a tri bike is faster than a road bike is the position it allows the rider to be put in, very little of the gain comes from the bike itself. So a properly fitting bike is crucial. Hence, get a bike fit first and then buy a bike.

How should I be shifting gears on the front chainring and the rear cogs to cope with hills?

I have always been an athlete, growing up playing team sports like basketball and soccer. I also ran in a couple of 10K races every year, so I had no reason to worry about running a 5K...right?

I am in the process of buying my first tri bike. Because of my size my fitter suggested buying a custom frame but then I have an infinite number of choices for components, wheels, aerobars, etc.

After I left the running store, I couldn't stop thinking about the sprint tri and how much of a challenge it would be for me. So instead of joining a gym, I started riding my bike and it felt great.

I never imagined that 350 yards broken down into 7 REALLY long lanes would be so big! I gasped out loud and told Grady that maybe I had underestimated the swim.

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.
