Subject: Best First Ironman (~May 2014)
I will be competing in my first Ironman next year, but I am still deciding on which to do. Because of the dates I want to do it (~May 2014) I am between IM Texas and IM Australia. Could anyone give me input to help me decide?

These are both great races, and I'm sure you'll be happy with whichever you choose. If you have not done so already, you may want to lookup race reports from past participants and read through them to get more direct feedback on both events.

If I were in your shoes, I'd make the decision based on travel considerations more than anything else. Cost? Flight times? Length of stay? Jet Lag issues? If these are "destination" races for you, which destination are you most interested in visiting?

If I had unlimited time and money for a May IM, I'd be headed to Lanzerote, but it is a much more difficult course than the two you'd mentioned.

I had a couple friends do IMTX this year and they said it was HOT. I don't know anything about IM Austria but if you're fine with heat & humidity, sign up for IMTX.

IMTX, but I am biased because that is going to be my first ironman as well!

Deciding on an Ironman as my first venture into triathlon was greeted with incredulity and astonishment combined with a hint of, "well, you're full of yourself aren't you?" and, "a bit ambitious?"

Most people believe that running barefoot is dangerous. Certainly, depending upon the surface, they would be correct. However, there is some suggestion that running barefoot may reduce injuries.
