Any of you regulars doing the Augusta 70.3? I'll be there.

I'm racing Augusta as a prep for B2B full.

Augusta is a fun race. I did it in 2009 (first HIM) and was not prepared for it back then. Am ready for it this time around.

See you there.

Hey Dood, how hilly is the bike course? I had it in my head that it's a flat course because the race is so fast. But I looked it up and mapmyride is showing 1020 ft "Ascent". Ascent / vertical numbers are sketchy but I compared it to the Raleigh HIM course again on mapmyride and that bike is 1230. So it looks like the Augusta bike is not as flat as I thought it was. I had been thinking it is like B2B.

Augusta is not like B2B! A few rollers and hills sprinkled throughout. The roads are not all that great, either. It's still a pretty fast course, though! I don't remember it too much from 2009 b/c it was my first HIM and I was under-trained and suffered badly.

Augusta bike is "flat" the first and last 13 miles. The middle is most definitely rolling with the biggest hill (that I remember) is at the last water bottle hand-off.

Will be there. Can't wait!! Running is going great but haven't been able to push on the bike due to hamstring issues. Where are you guys staying? We will be at the Candlewood Suites.

I haven't booked a place yet. The hotels near the event are booked so I'll probably choose from the bunch of inexpensive hotels on what must be the commercial strip. The family is not making the trip with me so I just need a bed.

West Bank Inn. Cheap as heck (like $55), clean, safe, comfortable bed, and an easy drive to start. When we stayed there, more than 50% of the hotel was racers. Fridge and microwave in the room. I think they had continental breakfast but I know we usually bring our own b-fast before a race.

There is also a McDonalds next door if you are like me and need a big ol' cup of coffee in the AM. You will thank me for the $50 you save from going with a name brand hotel.

I'm going to let you in on how to get faster by doing nothing. Well, not exactly nothing, but you won't have to raise your heart rate, put out 300 watts, or really even break a sweat.

I quickly browsed an article in Men's Health that talked about doing a triathlon, and how it wasn't really that hard. With a "tsk!" I quickly turned the page while thinking, "Yeah, right!"
