Age Group Rank = 9/9
Pre-race routine:

Typical pre-race routine. Bagel and Cream cheese about 3 hours before the race. Had a Gu about 45 minutes before the race started
Event warmup:

Visualization. Light stretching.
Swim
  • 10m 14s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 34s / 100 meters
Comments:

I felt good about my swim. My sighting was much better then last weekend at Mudwater. I probably started a little too hard at the beginning.
What would you do differently?:

Start a little slower at the beginning of race and saved some in the tank for the end. For next year I really need to work on bilateral breathing.
Transition 1
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

This was a really good transition for me. It's long way to the transition area from the swim and this is the first time I've run to the transition area.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. It felt good.
Bike
  • 52m 2s
  • 20 kms
  • 22.70 km/hr
Comments:

The bike went pretty well for me. It took me a lot longer than I wanted to recover from the swim so that was discouraging. Overall though it felt pretty good.
Transition 2
  • 01m 40s
Comments:

Alright, this transition sucked! I couldn't get my bike racked like I wanted. Also my feet were so wet it was really hard to get my socks on. This one slowed me down a lot.
What would you do differently?:

I'm not sure, but I need to figure how to get my socks on faster.
Run
  • 40m 39s
  • 5 kms
  • 08m 08s  min/km
Comments:

Well, I'm not a fast runner and this was just another reminder. I had a few catches in my side that made me slow down and walk a little bit. I really need to work on my running endurance and speed. With that said this is the fastest 5k I've ever done but I was hoping to come in under 40 minutes...
What would you do differently?:

Run!!!
Post race
Warm down:

Had a little gatorade and some baked lays. Walked around and socialized.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Running endurance and bike speed.

Event comments:

The course is a fun course but the Race Director made this thing a mess. There were no instructions prior to the race starting so a few bikers did 2 loops instead of three. They also began shutting the course down before the last runner came in because they didn't know she was out their. It was kind of a mess.

Personally though this was a really fun race. While I like the endurance of an Oly Sprint distances are like crack cocaine for me and this is a fun, flat, fast course. I will most likely do this race next year and see if my times can improve.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.

Race report on the Chattanooga Waterfront Tri - Beginners Point of View. This was my first Olympic length triathlon and also the first time I had done a race with cycling shoes instead of cages.
