What can everyone tell me about the Midwest Meltdown? I know Elite is the new RD. I'm considering throwing this into my late season schedule.

Flat, fast course, if ever there's a race to let 'er rip, this is it. I've done the short course twice, long course once. I think the bike course is two laps for the short course, four laps for the long course. The short course swim has been 750m, so longer than your typical sprint. Roads are OK, sometimes a little gravel to deal with. It will be interesting to see how many do the race this year with the new RD.

I'm doing it for the first time this year. Thinking about taking a ride down there and doing a couple loops at some point. Just need to free up some time.

Just take your bike out on the local high school track and do some laps.  It will be the exact same thing as the Paola bike course.  :-)

As stated above, super flat and fast. I'm signed up for the duathlon again this year. I loved the post race beer last year, I hope the new RD does the same.

After the Innsbrook and Omaha courses, flat sounds pretty good. My most important race is 2 weeks after meltdown and i was planning to do the Little Lake Quivira tri the week after meltdown. Is 3 tris in 3 weeks too much if the last one is most important?

Probably, but I think it depends on the distance of each and how much effort you finish with. Meltdown is really that flat. I'm guessing you could recover relatively quickly if you don't just let it rip the last 1/4th of the run. Especially if they still do the Michelob Ultras

Yes. And actually it may not be the total Oly distance of 1.5K/40K/10K. Years past it's been a 1500m swim, 20.8 mile bike and 5 mile run. So perfect for a first time long course.
