Wow, so glad May is over. Missed only a swim or two. 1 more peak week for me. Unfortunately, I have some sharp pain in my left foot on the outside area (ideas???) opposite the arch. It was not fun to run today (18m). Going to ice it and compress. May have to dial it back if its a bigger deal. Anyway, my May numbers below. 4 more weeks y'all.

May 2014:

Swim: 13h 03m 46s - 40100 Yd

Bike: 40h 08m 13s - 765.41 Mi

Run: 28h 42m 09s - 202.78 Mi

that is a hell of a month. If you have to dial back from here, I can't image that is an issue. Better to be healthy and rested.

Great month, Tom. Wicked fast, too!

Here's mine -- Missed several swims:

Swim: 26425 yards -- 9:45:00

Bike: 580.09 miles -- 35:16:25

Run: 221.68 miles -- 31:17:30

My numbers for the month:

Swim: 15h 34m 15s - 36400 Yd

Bike: 41h 36m 15s - 758.77 Mi

Run: 27h 24m 01s - 184.23 Mi

I have lots of aches and pains at this point, a back spasm that comes and goes, calf muscles that come and go, sore top of right knee. Just hoping to get to the starting line feeling better than I am now, pretty smoked. 1 more hard week to survive.

Swim: 8h 44m 22s - 21511.56 Yd
Bike: 37h 47m 42s - 588.32 Mi
Run: 18h 26m 37s - 115.68 Mi

Could have sworn I swam more than that, but logs don't lie. Legs feel pretty good, its my upper back and shoulders that are feeling it right now. But, two more hard weeks for me, then a two week taper. Hay is mostly in the barn by now, just time to do some final touches. May included Wildflower HIM, where I felt good on a hot and hard course.

ETA: this thread is putting up some serious numbers!

Bike: 24h 06m 49s - 410.07 Mi

Run: 9h 35m 55s - 63.6 Mi

Elliptical Training: 2h 30m

Not great numbers for me but I had a much better showing at IMTX than I have had the last 2 years.

At this point it is too late to do anything about it. You have 1 week to solidify the training you have already done, but not enough time to actually make training gains. So just stay at a high Z2 or slightly into Z3 effort all day and you should be fine. If you cook the swim and the bike there is some risk of walking during the 2nd half of the marathon. So you have the fitness for a good race, but not for a really fast race The worst thing you can do at this point is to train something really hard and get injured. (Just my thoughts based on your miles, not meant to be discouraging at all, you are fine for the race.)

I have to agree with Steve. There is the old saying, 'You are most likely to DNF due to overtraining rather than undertraining.'

Super May totals everybody! Looks like a variety of aches and pains for some, which I hope turn out to be nothing more than minor inconveniences for you. My totals ...
Swim: 38,300 yards, 13:12
Bike: 771 miles, 45:05
Run: 142 miles, 18:42

I've tried to monitor my body closely and have taken a few workouts off here and there to avoid getting too run down. I'm happy with how it's gone as my body feels relatively good, especially compared to other IM builds in the past. I hope I don't regret saying that because I'm about to head out for a simulated half-IM race in a few minutes. I still have two hard weeks left then a two week taper.

Best wishes for the remainder of your training.

I think I might have seen this before, but any recommendations on eating/coffee etc places in town? Getting in on the Thursday before the race, so will have some time on my hands.

Getting (more) excited!

Kinda curious on what is there regarding grocery stores, etc. I'll b staying up in Hayden Lake (30' away) and plan on cooking at the rented cabin for the most part. I'm truly taking advantage of this west coast trip (coming from FL). Flying into Seattle and staying a night and then driving over on Wed. Did everyone see that their is no Athlete dinner, instead we get a $25 food voucher. Is that something new at CDA? I kinda liked the dinner last year at TX.

Lots of great places to eat and grab a coffee here in town.  Java does great coffee, breakfast, and lunch.  Fire Artisan Pizza is exceptional and they're right downtown on Sherman.  I'd recommend reservations there though as it's a busy place, even without Ironman in town.  Scratch and The Cellar are on Sherman and are both good.  The Cellar has a good menu and exceptional wine list (check out the real wine cellar downstairs).  Tito's Italian Grill is good also and has a good wine list.  If you like sushi, Bonsai Bistro is really good and is located at the finish line.  Order the Kobe beef roll...you'll thank me later!  Seasons of Coeur d'Alene is on Lakeside Ave and has a good menu, especially for lunch.  There are two very good restaurants in the Coeur d'Alene Resort too.  Finally, the Grille from Impanema is on Front Street (you'll run right past it just before you turn onto Sherman for your run to the famous IMCDA finish line).  Calypso's Coffee has a cool vibe and is only a block from the finish line (you'll find me there after the swim while I'm waiting for the medical tent to get busy).  There isn't a Starbucks downtown but there is one at Riverstone which is only about 2 miles away.

Hope this helps.  If anyone has any other questions, feel free to PM me and I'll do my best to help out.

Thanks, that is very helpful. So looking forward to the race. I know I have two more weekends of hard training, but am at the point of wanting to get there and find out what I got! I've been telling my running partner at work that they've only got about a week left of me being anything resembling productive, then we will go into the bubble! Good luck to everyone on their last or next to last hard weekend. Taper and taper madness is just around the corner.

One addition I'll throw in there is Pilgrims Market in CDA. It's setup almost exactly as a Whole Foods, though slightly under priced. Loaded up here last year a few days before race and pretty much ensured that all my food was what I trained with (originally from the area but have been in Chicago for the past decade) If your not overly anal about nutrition/organic stuff like me than there are plenty of grocery stores scattered throughout town.

Also Syringa sushi. Full disclosure good friends of ours own it but it's hands down the best sushi spot in the inland northwest.

Last long run down. Let the run taper begin. Will put in a moderately big bike week next week, then taper the bike. Getting really close now. Hello Captain Obvious!

#2151 for me.

My son and I sprayed down runners during yesterday's IM 70.3 in Boise. Apolo Ohno participated, finishing in 4:59:XX. His first tri -- quite a debut!

You can officially count me out for Coeur d'Alene. It has been 3 weeks since my injury (tibialis anterior tendonitis). It is getting better though. I ran for 15 minutes yesterday without any pain. And it doesn't hurt to walk anymore.

I'm turning my focus toward Ironman Canada in Whistler on July 27th. My bike and swim fitness is stronger than ever, and between short runs and water running I feel like I can do this.

Good luck to everyone. I'll be following you guys online on June 29th.
