Run

Comments:

ran this faster than my intended pace of 10min/mi but I think it was OK. Warm and humid, but "pleasant" compared to later

Transition 1
  • 01m 17s
Comments:

transition from run went pretty smoothly except half my race number came unpinned and I forgot to drop my water bottle belt (not a real problem)

however, terrible mount and start: both rubber bands for my shoes had come off so I had a hard time getting going, getting on top of the shoes, and then into them. This has never happened before. I'm wondering if I was sabotaged

Bike

  • 16.27 mile/hr
Comments:

loop 1 went well, but I went at it a bit too hard (and paid for it later). a 70% effort in training got me about 50 minutes for a loop, but I did the first loop today in 47:02. I deliberately backed off on loop 2 and did that in 49:34.

moving dismount was OK, but one of my slower ones

Transition 2
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

definitely not one of my better ones: someones bike was basically in my spot, so racking my bike was slow. then, I lost a moment seeing if there was anything to be done for re-pinning my bib (nope, so I just tucked the loose end under my bottle belt). then, I was ready to exit TA

Run
  • 41m 41s
  • 4.19 miles
  • 09m 57s  min/mile
Comments:

it was obvious right away that I wasn't going to be running any 9 minute miles, so I settled in for whatever I could muster. VERY hot and VERY humid. saw so many people walking but vowed not to be one of them. goal achieved

not a great run, but still my best event today by ranking!

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

This program should be used for an athlete who is an experienced duathlete and their goal is to complete a medium distance duathlon without difficulty.

"I was wondering if this is a sensible approach? Should I get "better" on short distance and then move to something longer or do what I want if I feel I can do it whatever the time?"
