Subject: Just signed up to volunteer at IM Whistler!
Will be my first time at an IM event. Plan to get there early to watch and cheer before doing my shift.

I signed up for the final run aid station before the finish, shift #2. Which means the athletes coming through will be finishing within the 12hr-17hr mark.

Any tips to make the most of the experience? Do's and Don'ts?

Thanks BT

Hi aavlee,

Volunteering is a lot of fun and a good way to get to learn how everything works. You don't really need to learn anything for the volunteering. There are no right or wrongs. You will quickly get in to the spirit of the day and have a lot of fun at the same time. Just be flexible and relax.

Thanks... I'll probably be done before you are working, but if you are watching I will be one of the guys swimming about 48-50 min. CSR top and Tri-It shop shorts.

At that point in the race don't tell folks they are looking great.  They will know you are lying.

Seriously, thanks for volunteering.  You are what makes an event happen.

Over the past couple of months I've been waking up with a sore heel. Right in the center, it feels like I stepped on a pebble and bruised it. The pain, fairly minor, goes away as the day progresses.

My experience as a volunteer at a sprint triathlon. My reasons for arising before the sun were not to work out, but to volunteer. I wanted to give back to a sport I’m learning to love.

Everyone and anyone that has ever raced in a triathlon should take it upon themselves to volunteer at just one event next season. It is an eye-opening and inspirational experience.
