Hi- I will be in Baltimore around JHU for a week towards the end of Aug. If anyone has any tips on places to run around the university or swims it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I'll be staying at a hotel around the harbor but spending a fair amount of time around the undergrad campus. Thanks.

Running around the harbor is great, and the JHU campus, too.  In between...eh, maybe not so much.

There's a running path that goes along the harbor from Locust Point all the way around to Canton...probably 5 miles-ish total.  Tons of runners early in the morning.

For swimming, there are 3 Merritt Athletic Clubs within 5-10 minutes' drive, or 20 minutes run (Canton, DAC, and Fort Avenue).  I think the weekly rate is about $35...or you could say "you might want to join" (wink, wink) and they usually have some kind of special.  You could also call and tell them your situation and they might help out.

Very much appreciated. Thanks Mike.

There's a neat promenade that runs (ha, get it? RUNS!) from the Inner Harbor around to Federal Hill.. you can take that to and around Ft. McHenry, which is really pretty. Baltimore isn't exactly America's Safest City but I ran all over the city (during the day) and never had a problem.

I'll second the trail that runs around the waterfront into Canton. My BIL keeps his boat right there and we see tons of runners in the morning. I would skip anywhere right around JHU for safety reasons.

I have to say I had a great time in Baltimore. I've never been before but was pleasantly surpised. Low expectations are everything. The inner harbor area is quite nice. Had some great eats in Fells Point. The JHU campus is very nice. The In between area as mentioned, not so nice. Had some good runs around the harbor area and out to Fort McHenry. Thanks all for the recommendations, and can't wait to go back.
