Half has sold out! Close to 100 slots left for the full...

Step right up, folks! Not a lot of time left if you're on the fence!

Those last few hundred spots for the half went really quickly...I only signed up last Monday and there were still at least 200 spots open. I think people hedge their plans until the last moment possible and then there's a big rush to get in the door. You'd think it would be different for the full because doing a 140.6 is a such a big commitment that plans get made way out in advance...but I remember a couple of years back the same surge in entries with less than three months to go before race day.

So it goes with late season racing..

Finally pulled the trigger on the half last week - there were only ~70 slots left when I registered. Now if I can just avoid breaking any bones before this race...

can anyone tell me if the swim is clear as a mountain lake, muddy as high tide on the Georgia coast, or .... Curious. Also, it looks as if the weather in October is typically cool mid-70ish for high. What has been your experience? .....and one more, Is the run scenic at all? thanks for your time.

Not much visibility in the inlet but the water at least doesn't have a brackish taste.

70-ish sounds about right. I don't recall the high ever being more than mid-80's.

The run has three distinct segments: first is the run out of downtown. The river is on your right, nice, old houses and brick streets. The next part is not scenic at all - almost an industrial zone - but it's also the shortest part. The last and longest segment is the run through Greenfield Park. Lake, curving path, Spanish moss in the trees. . .not bad.

So, less than 2 weeks until this dance.

Anyone else in GA racing?

FWIW, a slack tide is predicted for B2B this year. this means you're not going to get much a benefit, if any, from the current on the swim. That's a bummer, but at least you won't see 40 min 2.4 mile swims!

Also, according to some ppl on the other tri site, the run course has changed again...I'm not sure exactly how, but I'll keep an eye out on the main site and post back here.

Good luck to those of you racing! See you out there!

BTW, I'm bib #229 and would love to meet/say hi to any of you from my home away from home.

very nice...can't wait for the story...side note, less than 10% of all IM distance participants run under 4 hours...that is the stat that tells you he had a good day.

Thanks for checking in, d00ds!

Boy, very tough day out there yesterday. The temps at the start were just crazy! We were all huddled around the heaters before it was time to get in the water, which was a comfy 71 degrees. Adding sub 40 degrees and a strong headwind (through mile 65) to an IM bike is a heck of a way to race! Hands, feet, and exposed face were all numb until almost 2.5 hours into the bike!

Felt great on the run, maintaining an 8 min/mi through the halfway point, I think, but then my right knee (I think it was where the IT band enters the knee) really started to hurt and I ended up dropping the pace after that...As anyone that has ever done an IM run knows, at this point it's all about pain management...and that's what I tried to do.

Glad to be able to finish and have family and friends there. Their support was very encouraging and very motivating!

Will write up a race report so you can read what NOT to do during an IM!

What a day!
First..you had heaters??? None for the half start.

No sharks, jellyfish, cabbage heads for me...no current either.
Long cold run to T1
I learned frozen toes into toe covers preserves "ice cubes".
Wind IMO negated a flat bike course.
T2 was A JOKE... you WAIT while 7+ volunteers scream out numbers and then you yell asking which one has your bag and your number again and again.
Run, I missed the gator, but great course.
Post was great, medical tent (first for me) was nice.
EXPO merchandise...50$ for a T-shirt?!!? Thankful for a "finishers" shirt and finisher lounge pants.

Great job everyone (race report soon, if they sort out the timing mats)

Heaters, huh? You full distance guys get all the perks. ;-)

My AG went out at 9:20 - there was a lot of shivering for a couple of hours before we entered the water (which was 30 degrees *warmer* than the air!). I was very happy that I picked up a "disposable" hoodie at the thrift store last week.

This was my first half and I loved it. Swim was better than expected (between the wetsuit and the salt water, I felt like a cork), but that was a chilly run to T1.

Agree with others that the bike was tougher than I expected. After that long slog into a headwind up Hwy 421, I expected a tailwind on the way back down - didn't happen. The entire leg felt like 55 miles of uphill with a little coasting after the final bridge (BTW - those bridge gratings are crazy on tri tires).

Loved the run - beautiful setting, lots of shade, and great volunteers & crowds. Started out a bit too fast and had to back off after the turnaround. Even so, finished it only 3 min slower than my half mary PR.

I'll admit to getting a little verklempt when I saw the finish line. I trained for Augusta in 2011 & 2012. After getting hit by a car during the Chattahoochee Challenge (in August 2011) and a season ending bike wreck last September (only 2 weeks before Augusta IM), it was an emotional release to finally cross that line.

BTW - I saw a cyclist down on the other side of the highway as I was headed up Hwy 421. There was an ambulance, fire truck, police on site. Anyone have any info? I always say a prayer for folks in that situation - I've been "that guy" and know what it's like.

We must be in the same AG - that 9:20 start made things much easier heading in to T1 than those poor folks who started their day when it was still 35'.

I saw the ambulances and firetruck, too...it looked ugly but I didn't see anything about it in the Wilmington local news, so hopefully the racer who went down wasn't hurt too badly.

Yep - I aged up to 50-54 in September. Being at the low end of the AG didn't help much, though!

In case you missed it, the Wilmington Star posted ~100 pics from the race:
