No real importance in this questions but just thought I would ask. Do you scrub and scrub until you cant see your race numbers anymore? I raced yesterday and instead of having to were a race belt they just put our race number on our arms and legs (one are both legs).. I took to shower yesterday and I can still see them.. No a big deal, but its kind of nice hearing peoples reaction at work when they ask what that number means and you tell them you do triathlons..

I don't try to hard to get them off. I usually let them fade away on their own.

If they are the tattoo's then use packaging tape to get them off. Will get almost all of it off in one pull and doesn't hurt that much.

Body marking with permanent markers is fairly standard here. I give it a good scrub when I shower after the race and the next morning that gets rid of most of it. Then I just let it wash off.

However if it is still there next weekend then its time to break out what ever you can find to get it off cause then it isn't cool it just kind of looks like you don't shower enough

I've found that plain old rubbing alcohol and a paper towel will remove permanent marker very well. Also, those sanitizing wipes (Lysol, etc.) will work, too.

Baby wipes or sunscreen have both worked well for me.

+1 on baby wipes. They are also great at removing chain grease. I found that make-up remover is also good at getting the numbers off. No need to scrub with either of those.

When I did Eagleman in June I got a suntan around the number on my arm! It was readable for 3 weeks.

Wear it as a badge of honor!

No real "extra" effort for me.  I usually use body wash and a loofah type thingy (yes I'm that fancy, but dang my skin is soft and smooth!!).  This for the most part takes all the marker off... or at least makes it really really faint.  As the previous poster said, though, longer races in the sun usually ends up with a suntan of the race number.

I use hand sanitizer gel, or wipes. As long as they contain alcholol, they remove the magic marker race numbers easily.

Yes, I do. I have an exfoliating towel that's great for it.

+1 to sunscreen and
+1 to eagleman white-person numbers, though sadly my age was the only one that was legible.

I usually try sunscreen, if it doesn't work immediately then I give up. They'll go away eventually.

I just skip body marking.  I haven't had a body mark in three years.  I had marker bleed ruin my half-white Kiwami trisuit a few years ago and I was done with the marking after that.

At Hawaii 70.3 a few years ago got the suntan burn-in and they use the thick stamped on numbers.  I wore tank tops for the next month.

I shower when I get home from the race and whatever is left washes off. I scrub, but I don't scrub and scrub. One scrub.

I tiny bit of elbow grease with a loofah seems to get it for me.  Nothing really more than what I would normally do in a shower.  I like it GONE.  I have had it leave marks on sheets when I tried to preserve it my first couple races.

I am in my first ever event at the end of the month and will be greviously annoyed if there are not race numbers applied in heavy black ultra permanent ink.

I plan on being super casual the day after visiting EVERYONE I know wearing a white tee shirt with rolled up sleeves.

I know this will lead to a moment of breif shame at some future time when I realise what an attention grabbing loser I was. But still.

Pain is temporary, shame is forever... or something like that! Laughing

Enjoy your first race and relish in the afterglow, you'll have earned it.

ETA:  seems the sac font isn't working.

I had one of the more permanent tattoo numbers from a race last fall. One of the numbers was backwards (from a very nice volunteer!) on my calf. I looked ridiculous for about two weeks b/c of the tan around it.

Got some acetone from the hardware store and using a paper towel the marks come right off.  Probably the same as nail polish remover but likely a whole lot cheaper.

Why bother trying to get the number off earlier than just allowing it to fade?

In addition to writing your race number on each upper arm, they also wrote your age on your calf. This allowed me to see who was passing me by in the bike section of this race.
