I have some good news today. I met with my nutritionist and weighed in at 199 pounds so I'm not longer a Clydesdale by any standard. I'm just a chubby guy with a bike!

Anyway, I'm down 29 pounds since mid April and about 60 lbs since November 2011. It's been a long haul I tell you. This summer has been very difficult. I've been eating/training to perform my best in several Sprint Triathlons and have had much fun with my accomplishments. It is difficult to loose FAT and have enough energy just to complete a race--not counting having enough energy for all the training time.

I have my first Olympic distance tri tomorrow, leaving 2 more sprints for the season. I am really having a lot of fun, but can also tell you how exciting it is to complete a race without every joint shouting in protest. Weight loss makes a BIG difference. This fall/winter, I plan to maintain my base running/swimming/biking and focus a bit more on strength training to build some lean mass. In the spring, I'll cut in around 185 which will be my intended race weight. Still heavy by any competitive standard (standing 5'10"), I think I'll be happy with my performance in next year's HIM. Full IM in 2015!

Jeff

Congrats on the big accomplishments! What a fantastic feeling it must be. You'll have to stop in and tell us how your first race as a non-clyde went. Good luck!

Congrats on the weight loss. Me, on the other hand, i don't want to leave "clyde"status. That is why I am stuck at 202. However I have heard that clyde status has been changed to 225. Anyone else heard this?

I heard the Clydesdale threshold was increased as well, although did not see it on USA Triathletes website. I've participated in 6 triathlons and while all had age group designations, none had Athena/Clydesdale designations. I'm at 198 as of today and while I am not monitoring my nutrition plan closely, I am not loosing either. I do want to get down to 185-190 in order to see where my actual "race weight" is. I'm reading the books by the same name by Matt Fitzgerald.

Few races seem to have this class but:

US regulations now have:

Men = 220
Women = 165

Since August, my weight hasn't moved much between 197 and 201. I did a 1/2 marathon in November but otherwise have switched to an off season training mode. Lately, I've focused on strength training--including kettlebells, dumbells, and body weight exercises. I'm focusing on compound movements of the legs, back, and shoulders. I still do crossfit 1x per week and have maintained my running base with one 5 mile (long run) and several 2-3 milers during the week. I've stopped swimming and biking.
