Total Time = 1h 44m 39s
Overall Rank = 121/143
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 14/16
Swim
  • 11m 10s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

The current kept pushing me toward the shoreline. I wore my wet suit. I stood up and walked a lot, due to crowds, getting off course and struggling to breath.
What would you do differently?:

I need to improve every aspect of my swimming
Transition 1
  • 03m 10s
Comments:

First time racing with a set suit. I had a short moment of panic when taking it off and I thought I tore the ankle bad. But once I stepped on my legs, I got the rest of it off quickly.

I had a weird blister between two toes that I pulled off and sand came pouring out.
What would you do differently?:

Don't try to take wet suit off by hand. Just step on it to get off.
Bike
  • 57m
  • 12 miles
  • 12.63 mile/hr
Comments:

Did a good job shifting and attacking the downhills. Used the flats to drink. Suffered and cursed the uphills, especially the final hill.
What would you do differently?:

It was an average performance. I'm disappointed that I didn't really improve from last year.
Transition 2
  • 02m 28s
Comments:

Pretty quick transition, though I got a pedal stuck on a barrier, which delayed me a few seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Eventually I should try the more advanced moves (jumping off moving bike, etc.)
Run
  • 31m 52s
  • 2 miles
  • 15m 46s  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

Continue to wean myself off the run/walk method and get to non stop running.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not training hard enough (bike) or often enough (swim). Long taper - Race was postponed 3 weeks due to weather. In that time, I had planned on not training much, plus I had a week of vacation (IMLP).

Event comments:

It's unfortunate it had to be delayed due to Alum Creek flooding. Not sure if that contributed to the overall feel of chaos on race day. Didn't seem disorganized last year. Also, there may have been a timing issue, as the official results don't include time in transition. My data is a combination of their official results and my Garmin tracking.

On the day of the race my chain jumped off again and got wrapped so tightly around my crank that I couldn’t finish. I DNF'ed my first triathlon.

You already know that attitude and what you believe about yourself has an incredible impact on what you accomplish.
