I signed up a few weeks ago for Pigman long that's coming up in 4 days. I was checking out the course on google earth and it looks like the bike is a solid 10 miles short.... Has anyone done this race before? Is there an out and back or something that isn't on the map that's on the course website? Thanks.

I have never done it but am signed up as well. If searched for "Pigman bike course" and found somebody had posted their GPS on mapmyride. They posted 56.07 with 843 elevation. The elevation I think/hope is deceiving, looks like rollers you carrying momentum on. It does have 2 climbs of about 100 ft though.... 1 is at mile 54

Let me know what you thought of this course, please. I did the HIM in Racine this past summer and loved it. Headed to the IMFL in Nov. 2014 so looking for a late summer long course race like Pigman to see where I am at next year at that time.

Would love your feedback!

The worst part about this course is the run. It's almost entirely out in the open with zero shade. Given the time of year that it's held, that likely means a hot, sun-soaked run. Out-and-back run also has hardly any spectator support. Relatively flat, although at mile 11/12 you have a sizable uphill climb (very cruel to put it so close to the end)

The volunteers are great, and there are plenty of aid stations. It's a nice medium-to-small sized event. Time-trial swim start in a very clean lake. Bike course has a lot of rolling hills. If I wasn't doing IMWI this year, I'd probably do Pigman again.

Is this Heaven? No, it's Iowa.

I know I'm late to the party here but I did Pigman in 2012 and I really enjoyed the event.  My run was tough as hell but it was a well supported nice venue.  I thought the bike was fun and the last hill on the run was a major pain.

Does anyone know if this is still a Nationals Qualifier for the Long course?

Which "Nationals"? I know you're asking about 70.3, but which governing body race?

Someone had told me that sometime in the past 2-3 years it was a qualifying event for the Long Course USAT Nationals.
This event may usually be held in Vegas?? I am not sure because I am not really very experienced in that race distance.
I was wondering if it brings in a ton of super fast people because of this?? Not sure.
Not even sure they still have it as a qualifier (if they really did).

No, I don't believe it has ever been a qualifier for the race that has been in Vegas ( IM 70.3 WC).  I could totally be wrong, but as far as I know, only IM branded races have been qualifiers for that.  That WC race will be in Mont-Tremblant on Sept 7, 2014.  Any IM 70.3 is a qualifier.

Pigman Long has some very fast athletes most years.  It's a popular midwest race at a good time, but I'm thinking it might be a little less competitive this year because AGN are the week before in Milwaukee, and they're the qualifier for oly/sprint Worlds.  It's expected that this year AGN will be extra competitive because Worlds is scheduled to be in Chicago and lots of people will want to try to qualify since it's on home turf.

Hey all! I still may toss this one into my schedule for 2014 but was wondering where you typically stay at. I live south of Des Moines so driving up the AM of the race is not really an option for the HIM. Is there a decent hotel that's reasonably price where most athletes stay? Is there a thread for the 2014 race yet? I hadn't seen one.

Cedar Rapids Marriott is once again the host hotel for the Pigman Triathlon s. They will be offering a special rate of $94 for the Pigman Triathlon participants. This price is for a room with double beds or a room with a king size bed and is good for up to four adults.

The most valuable thing you can do for your endurance training is to schedule a weekly 2-4hr long ride from now until the end of time. Simply make this “what you do” every Saturday or Sunday morning.

I recognize that my 45 minute jog Wednesday night does not really count as a ”long” run, but for me it was! Yesterday I felt fine…but man, today the legs are SORE.
