Total Time = 1h 06m 22s
Overall Rank = 67/887
Age Group = M16-17
Age Group Rank = 2/10
Event warmup:

Easy jog, swim in the ocean. Ended up not being a arm-up at all though because race started 30 minutes late.
Swim
  • 07m 56s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 48s / 100 yards
Comments:

Was cramped when starting run because of standing there waiting but everyone was in the same situation. Once in the water I didn't feel too good. Would've liked to go out a lot faster.
What would you do differently?:

Don't take swim easy.
Transition 1
  • 03m 9s
Comments:

Reason time was so slow was because of long run on beach in soft sand.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 30m 40s
  • 10 miles
  • 19.57 mile/hr
Comments:

Wanted to be right around 20mph average and was so happy with the ride. It's still not very good but has definitely imroved from past races. Usually just under 18mph.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 02m 35s
Comments:

Pretty smooth transition. Tried taking inhaler (forgot to in the beginning of race) and was rummaging around in my bag but other than that all good. Another slow time but only because of the long run out, which was a good idea by Delmo Sports so you can get a true 5k time. No complaints there.
What would you do differently?:

Take inhaler before race.
Run
  • 22m
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

Very happy with this run. Put in a lot of run training and it has significantly improved to close to 7:00 pace. Right around where I wanted to be, just like with the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.

Event comments:

Delmo Sports really does put on good races. The race director is fun with it, gives out a lot of prizes, and everything is just handled very well. The race did start a half hour late which was a wee bit annoying but there's nothing that can be done about that. It was clear they were trying their best to clear the course and get it going.

Heard good about this company and it was indeed great. Will definitely be signing up for all three of their races next season.

I have always been an athlete, growing up playing team sports like basketball and soccer. I also ran in a couple of 10K races every year, so I had no reason to worry about running a 5K...right?

After I left the running store, I couldn't stop thinking about the sprint tri and how much of a challenge it would be for me. So instead of joining a gym, I started riding my bike and it felt great.

I couldn’t help but feel that the race had beaten me. Perhaps duathlons were more for me? No, I was more determined than ever to succeed. I was determined to get on top of my swimming.

This life of mine is not so different from yours. It has a multitude of similarities. I suffer from uncertainty, I get nervous at the thought of registering and when getting to the starting line.

I am not going to buy a tri-suit before my first tri - I want to make sure I am going to stick with this before I spend a lot of money on it so I want to figure out what will work best.

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.
