Total Time = 1h 37m 12s
Overall Rank = 147/319
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 16/26
Swim
  • 08m 18s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started in the middle of the pack at the back. Did not find a good rhythm, kept bumping into people. Swam front crawl without stopping for rest. Good finish, jogged out of the water ready for the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Start at the front or to the side.
Transition 1
  • 03m 15s
Comments:

My T2 was slow. It was in a grassy area and I forgot my towel. Used a rag to get grass off my feet before putting on my shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Bring a large towel to quickly clean my feet.
Bike
  • 47m 34s
  • 13.8 miles
  • 17.33 mile/hr
Comments:

I attacked the hills and recovered on the flats. Lost speed and time on the fastest part of the decent on a blind corner where someone had an accident. Top speed was 36 mph. Used a road bike with gatorskins and no aero bars.
What would you do differently?:

Train more hills, get aero bars for the flats
Transition 2
  • 02m 1s
Comments:

Felt slow, trouble again cleaning grass off my feet.
Run
  • 36m 4s
  • 4.3 miles
  • 08m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

Started slow but still suffered a mild cramp 1 minute in. Walked it off and felt good by the end of mile 1. Splits were 9:22, 8:22, 8:18, 8:02, final .3 at 7min pace.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. This was a great run for me. Huge improvement over my first tri. Just need to train more.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate a BLT

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need to loose more weight, train more, swim better

Event comments:

This was a great race. Lots of friendly volunteers, tasty post race food, good atmosphere.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.

The triathlon made a lot of sense as I could fit the training around early mornings and other times that wouldn't eat too much into my family time. Things never go completely to plan do they?

I found a sprint, the Lake Las Vegas Triathlon, that was happening four months down the road and signed myself up; much to the surprise of friends and family.

The first time I ventured into the deep murky green lake and could not see the bottom my muscles tensed and my imagined fears surfaced. What exactly lies beneath?

Both the Lake Triathlon Shoe CX210TRI and the Lake Road Shoe CX225 offer distinct advantages. I tested both shoes and found them to be extremely comfortable, good looking and durable.

If you are calm while everyone around you is losing it, you probably don’t know what the hell is going on.
