Overall Rank = 341/830
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 37/89
Pre-race routine:

Bowl of oatmeal at home, glass of water.
Event warmup:

Raked bike, jogged along path for 1/4 mile. Warm up swim 300 yards
Swim
  • 12m 31s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 30s / 100 yards
Comments:

Best swim at this venue to date. So much better conditions than last month's Life Time Mpls Tri. Had to get around two swimmers ahead of me who were breast stroking it in. Improved over the Mpls Tri doing a longer course (500 vs. 440 yards) by 7 minutes.
What would you do differently?:

Sight better - went off course a bit going to the first buoy
Transition 1
  • 02m 55s
Comments:

cap and googles off, wet suit unzipped and down to my waist by the time I hit the swim out mat. Helmet and sunglasses on, wetsuit off and bike shoes on. Then ran to mount line and took off.
Bike
  • 50m 13s
  • 15.5 miles
  • 18.30 mile/hr
Comments:

Great ride! Using the FLO race wheels with the wheel cover on the back made an incredible difference in my speed for this race. Improved from the Mpls Tri on the same course by 12 minutes.
What would you do differently?:

Buy myself a wheel cover for my race wheels
Transition 2
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

Helped that the run out was about 10 feet from where my bike was racked!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 36m 49s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

Sucked it up through the initial calve cramping, but once I got moving, it worked itself out. Made sure I drank enough fluids to stay hydrated on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Push myself harder on the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Water, chicken wrap, grapes and some granola bar bits

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Thinking too much on the run and letting it get to me.

Event comments:

Well organized and fun race. 900 participants, all women.

I started training for triathlons in my early 20's but never entered one. Twenty years later found me still a newbie, with many extra pounds, much more humility and a healthy dose of reality.

Triathlon serves up many humbling moments. The most humbling of days came not during a race day but by email. I had been invited to participate in the Rambling Rose Women’s Only Triathlon. Wow.
