Anybody doing the Kirkland Triathlon this year?

I decided th throw it into the mix for a "practice run" of Leadman Bend the next weekend.

Who else is going to be there?

I might. I am still unsure on races for the remainder of the summer. I had a lot of fun at Kirkland last year. The bike course is hilly! The swim start is funky too. The lake is so shallow that we had to start a couple hundred feet from shore. It caused quite a lot of confusion at the beginning.

I'll be there! Fun course and I believe it is a little earlier this year, so hopefully a little warmer...remember laughing with friends last year after the race about the possibilities of not being able to brake/shift on the downhill due to frozen hands.

It was super cold setting up transition last year (high 40's). It warmed up quickly though. They did move it up a couple weeks.

Not this year. I did it last year and it was fun.

They were a little unorganized at the start....I showed up when the transition was supposed to open at 5:30 and they were still setting up. There was no security on site and I was really nervous about leaving my bike to go for coffee.

The swim was a self seeded wave start...so based on how fast you swim you put yourself in one of five or so waves. It was a little cumbersome since nobody knew how to do it, but it got organized quickly and actually worked quite well.

The bike course was a gas. Bring your climbing legs as there is a long steady climb and you get to do twice. The downhill section is screaming fast.

The run was mostly flat with a small hill at the turn-around.

Have fun.

I *might* have helped design that bike course.

Should be a fun event this year.  Always kinks to work out the first time...hoping they pull it off even better this year.  I volunteered there last year and saw a lot of smiling faces.  The City of Kirkland is VERY hard to work with, so having an event go off without too much cluster** is pretty amazing.

Have fun!

I will be there. It's so close to my home I couldn't resist. This is only my third triathlon and I expect it will be the last for this season, since there's nothing going on after September.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.
