Elite 3277 Minnetonka | Subject: Triathlon watch... Which one? It's time to upgrade from my Garmin forerunner 305. I've been looking at the Garmin forerunner 310XT. It's on Amazon right now for around $187.00 (Although at the local sporting goods store it's $249.99) Anyhow, should I stick with Garmin? or is there others out the that I'm just not aware of. I would like it to track swimming too and stay around $200.00 - $275.00... Any suggestions? |

Veteran 439 Dartmouth, Massachusetts | Subject: RE: Triathlon watch... Which one? The price range is leading you to my tri watch....Magellan Switch Up. It's comparible to the 310XT except that it really sucks tracking your run...biking/swimming are up to the standards of other watches. I actually use my Garmin 205 when I go out for a run for more accuracy...so that's a long winded way of saying spend the extra money and get the 910...wish my wife had for my XMAS present last year! |

Pro 6520 Bellingham, WA | Subject: RE: Triathlon watch... Which one? If you do much OWS, the 910xt is worth it for that alone in my opinion. I have found the yardage and pacing to be reasonably accurate which has taken a lot of the guess work out of my workouts which are done almost entirely in a lake until it starts to freeze in the winter. |

Subject: RE: Triathlon watch... Which one? Check out DC Rainmaker's reviews. I've got a 910 that I'm pretty happy with and made my decisions based on his reviews. |

928 | Subject: RE: Triathlon watch... Which one? LOVE the 910xt but I think I could have been just as happy with the 310xt in many ways. I don't get great swimming metrics on the 910xt because apparently my stroke sucks and it thinks I'm stopping and starting more often than I am. My main sport is running and I'd consider the 910xt for the run features alone. The fact that it's a multisport watch and I can wear it in the water is a bonus. |

Pro 5361 | Subject: RE: Triathlon watch... Which one? yeah, yeah, yeah- there's nothing like the 910. I don't own one, but I've borrowed one and used it. I have 3 complaints about it. 1. it's not a watch. unlike my 405 running watch- you can't just wear it as a watch. It doesn't show the time/date... well, unless you turn it on, then turn off the gps, and have a screen set up to show you the time. but really- it's not a watch. 2. when using it for swimming, it counted the laps correctly in the end, but seemed to always be a lap or two behind while I was swimming. So, checking how many laps I've done in the middle of a 500 was kinda' guess work. 3. it doesn't really replace my 510 for my bike. I need the bigger number display, as I'm old and can't see close any more. Plus, setting up screens with 8 variables on them each, so I get all my power metrics, it's just easier with the 500. but yeah. there's nothing better out there that's a single device to do all three sports. |

Never had that swimming problem though. yeah, yeah, yeah- there's nothing like the 910. I don't own one, but I've borrowed one and used it. Sure it does, at least as to time. You just have to set it show time of day. I have this on one of my cycling screens for rides when I need to be back at a particular time. I don't know if you can set the date on there or not. However, I'm not going to wear this thing to the grocery store. EDIT: maybe I misunderstood your post. If the watch is on, and that finding satellites screen is gone, time of day is pretty easy. So, maybe we're saying the same thing. Edited by Goosedog 2013-08-22 8:41 PM |

282 | Subject: RE: Triathlon watch... Which one? OP, I did a bunch of research & wanted the 910, but because of the huge price difference (especially here) I went with the 310 and I am actually very happy with it. So yes as everyone is saying go for the 910, but if you want to save some cash the 310 is a great choice and I definitely recommend it. The 310 is the 2nd best choice to the 910 and is debatably the best choice overall because of the price difference. I don't know if the 910 also has this option but on my 310 my swim tracking got much more accurate when I changed it from smartlogging to logging every second. I hear what you are saying it is obviously not intended to be used as a standalone watch, but (on my 310) I just leave one of my 12 pages with just the time on it (like you mentioned), but I don't bother turning the GPS off. I find no need to turn the GPS off since it has a nice long battery life. |

(Menu>Settings>System>Data Recording>Record Data Points: Every Second) I have done that but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Actually I changed the setting to get better data on open water swimming, but I thought that for indoor swimming it wouldn't matter. From what I understand it's the accelerometer which is sensing my turns (essentially when you stop swimming) and pushes off the wall that counts the laps while swimming. So maybe I'm sort of "stopping" mid length and it thinks it's a new length. Otherwise I do really like the watch and I sometimes do what you say and use it as a regular watch during the day. |

Member 522 Saint Paul, MN | Subject: RE: Triathlon watch... Which one? Another vote for the 910. Though like others say, as great as it is, it isn't the end all be all. I still like having the Edge 500 on my bike. |
