Total Time = 1h 46m 1s
Overall Rank = 350/470
Age Group = F4045
Age Group Rank = 24/34
Pre-race routine:

Got up early, drove to race site, had a bagel in the car
Event warmup:

Didn't bother to warm up
Swim
  • 19m 1s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

No open water swim for over 2 years. Was basically enjoying being in the water - it was comfortable.
Transition 1
  • 03m 45s
Comments:

Took the time to set up the Runkeeper app on my phone to tract distance/speed. Not wearing a wet suit makes the transition smoother. Didn't bother to dry my feet, just put on socks on wet feet, on the shoes and go.
Bike
  • 50m 40s
  • 14.2 miles
  • 16.76 mile/hr
Comments:

Should drink more. Most of the route was shaded and I didn't feel too hot, but started to feel thirsty toward the end.
Transition 2
  • 01m 46s
Comments:

Rack close to bike entrance, easy to find my space.
Run
  • 29m 52s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

surprised to get sub 10 min/mile.
Post race
Warm down:

finished gatorade, drank water, ate some post-race food and cool with an ice towel.

Event comments:

Haven't raced for over 2 years. Had kept up with the exercising, and am able to do 2x the distance of individual legs. Just never put them together. Some time in June, saw that the race wasn't yet full. Race in Aug is when I am taking a summer break from school. Decided to register and see how much fitness I had lost/retained.

I am not "back" into the sport, per se, more like doing it occasionally as a special event, with the major purpose to see friends and have fun with them. I had always liked this race.

When I am done with school, I might show up more at these event, either as athlete or volunteer.

I finished this in 1:46:01. My first Sprint race in 2005 was 1:36:09, with shorter distances in all 3 legs. The conclusion is, I had retained much of my fitness while aging up. Just realized I am in a new age bracket now.

So glad you were able to come out and play this weekend. I knew you had not lost any fitness. You are far too active.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

After you have established the Ironman goal, the most important factor outside of the training is which race to choose? What is your best sort of course, hilly, rolling, flat?

Experts agree, doing a “mock,” triathlon on the course you’re racing can aid you in your training; performance and most of all quell some nervous energy.
