Subject: Looking for running coach
I just finished the Timberman 70.3 race in NH and my run was really disappointing. I've always been a strong swimmer and pretty good on the bike -- but my running skills/style need work. Can anyone recommend a good running coach either in the Boston area or (preferably) on the north shore?

My guess is that my run form is hampered from being a cyclist for so long -- overdeveloped calves and quads resulting in muscle imbalances (weak knees and hamstrings).

I'm not looking to spend a fortune or spend 6 months working with someone, but a few sessions with an evaluation of my stride and some corrective guidance would be great. Recommendations welcome. THANKS.

Mike

Don't know any coaches but let me just share what has worked for me recently. Went to a gait analysis with TRI team given by a Chiropratic Physician who practices ART. We all watched him watch each persons run and he would comment on what he saw, "left shoulder lower than right, left hip more forward etc..Then he made a small adjustment to the person and watched them run again and what a difference!!! I felt the difference in my run!
Also I got some RUNIVERAL dvds and have been doing intervals on treadmill. Good luck

Thanks for this reply. I think a gait analysis is a more accurate description of what I'm looking for. Does anyone know if they do this at Fast Splits in Newton? That place seems to have a lot of training resources.

You might want to look at Colin from Peak Tri Coaching who posts here on BT and just KQed again. He is in NH just over the border is what I understand.

His prices are very reasonable.

I've worked with Jorge Martinez from  E3 Training Solutions from Watertown, MA.  He is an amazing coach.   He took me from someone who couldn't run more than 10 miles a week without getting injured to a full marathon!   Jorge also does the Winter Cycling Program here on BT.  I hooked up with him because I liked his ethics of giving back to the community.

Try Mike Toomey, through the Salem Park and Rec department.

He greatly helped me... from a 31 minute 5k to a 18:23 at the Timberman Sprint.

I have pedals with the cage and when I ride 2+ hours my legs feel much more tired then if I took out my husband's bike with clipless pedals. Do clipless pedals truly make the difference?

I started riding this spring with the Carnac shoes on Look pedals (with plenty of float). About five minutes into a ride I get sharp pain on the outer edge of my feet, just behind the pedal.
