How many do it and how do you keep it from running down in your shoes?

It's an IM wet feet are the least of my worries.

It gets in your shoes and if you have tri shoes they are able to handle a bit of liquid.

I don't get anymore fluid in my shoes than if I'm dumping water on myself to keep cool.  Most of it is swept away by the wind.  I just go followed by a few splashes of water.  I find some irony in folks with mega-buck frame and wheels standing in line for a porta-potty during a race.  That equates to a pretty expensive break.

I ran into this at IMLOU. I am pretty serious about hydrating so I pee a lot. Every aid station had lines at the porta pots. So after the 2nd, I just started letting go on the bike. My only problem was wet feet from the 2nd bike aid station til the end of the run.

It made me uncomfortable. Not too much on the bike but definitely on the run. I have Diadora regular bike shoes(carbon bottoms, leather uppers), regular Soc running shoes and I wear regular Starter socks your can buy anywhere.

I am not a podium guy and I don't do triathlons to be miserable but I don't want to lose 25 minutes on the bike standing in line for porta pots. On the run it was the sponges and pouring water on myself that kept my feet wet.

What equipment or technique will keep my feet more dry?

I peed on the bike for the first time (actually 6 times!) last weekend in IMLOU. I saw a guy pee like the diagram in the race, and was mesmerized. Today, his cycling shoes probably don't smell like a Johnny on the Spot...

Ive done 3 IM's and have never peed after my swim. I do hydrate plenty but im a heavy sweater. Never going to get a Kona slot so if I'd have to go I'd use a porta potty.Unless maybe if there was somone trying to suck on my rear wheel

I did IMKY a couple days ago and peed on the bike 6 times! I was making sure I wasn't going down because of hydration! lol. At first I put my butt off to the side, but later I was just going sitting on the seat. Ya, it goes in your shoes, but you quickly forget about it about 5-10 minutes later. For the most part it's water and warm water, but I'm not the only one doing it. I can't imagine the time I would have lost if I got off 6 times! Pee on the bike! It's part of Ironman!

For any ladies reading... I have a really hard time emptying my bladder trying to pee on the bike. I can start to pee (after 5 or 6 attempts) but some reflex makes me stop after about 5 seconds. So in my last Ironman I pulled off behind a tree or bush, kept my shorts on, and squatted in the grass. Same idea - no waiting in line for a porta potty - but a MUCH better result.

Keep a second pair of socks in your running shoes. Makes the run much more pleasant.

I'm just a dirty boy and I don't give a _____.  As long as I don't end up peeing on fellow competitors in the process the fact it goes in my shoes is whatever.  I ride sockless so I just dump a bottle of water on my feet in T2.

I am going to apologize in advance, before i embarrass myself.

For the men and women, how far is anyone willing to save time on the bike or run. I am wondering if they are willing to use a "foley Catheter" ????

Again Sorry cant help to bring it up.I work in the medical field and i see these all the time for men and women.

Geez!, I'm hoping I can pee on the side of the road or something!! I don't need a porta potty, but I don't really want to pee in my pants either.

Seriously, you can't just jump off the bike and find a tree or a bush? Is that illegal in the Ironman, I hope not!!

Technically no nudity, but it's HIGHLY unlikely a race official is going to ride by at the exact moment your pants are down

I have pulled the pants down to pee behind a tree, too - whatever works!

not clear whether peeing is legal in the bushes or not.

I just did IMMT and they specifically said, in the race brief , it would be a violation if caught not using the porta potties.

BUT I saw tons of people peeing along side the road, in bushes, etc on the bike and run.

I have never tried to pee on the bike... I've thought about it but I worried that I would crash... So, I've found the nearest tree always worrying that I'd get busted. I'm a a back of the packer and I'm worried about finishing in time. It would be a sin to be DQed because you waited too long for a porta potty.

Part of the bad publicity of IM triathlons is the area residents complaining about people peeing thier yards- besides the trash everyone tosses......

Peeing while on the bike is a natural part of endurance cycllng; i'd learn to do it or stop at a porta potty before peeing on someones rose garden. I can imagine my reaction if I saw some guy peeing on my yard.

I admit, I tried this during a HIM recently and just didn't have to go badly enough to actually go on the bike (went about 45' after the race, so it clearly wasn't urgent).

What was running through my head, though, was whether I should be standing in the saddle, not pedaling or pedaling, whipping it out a la the illustration, etc.

Do you all stand and go?  Sit?  Stop pedaling?  For the guys, do you hike up the tri shorts or just go in them?

Wondering what makes it easiest to start the floodwaters flowing...

Matt
