"I have three messages," said the breathless Nyad."One is we should never ever give up. Two is you are never too old to chase your dreams. And three is it looks like a solitary sport but it takes a team."

Awesome.

Oh my goodness it's amazing.

The first time I swam 2 miles in salt water it took an entire day to get the salt flavor out of my mouth. The video of her appearance is stunning at the finish. I would be interested to see a before and after picture of her to see the difference. She seemed very very swollen and her hands seemed very swollen and wrinkly. I am also curious to hear what her medical treatment will be now that she's done.

Exactly.. shame on CNN.

However, it was still far superior to what ESPN - the so-called "sports" network - provided for coverage. ESPN is too wrapped up in microanalyzing what this kid Johnny Football Manziel had for breakfast or somthing to that effect (oh puhleeeeeeze).

Congratulations to her! This obviously meant so much to her to come back multiple times after not being able to complete the feat.

I have spent a lot of time in a pool on my life and done a few 'distance' swims, meaning marginally over one-fiftieth of what she just did. Awesome, Amazing, Incredible and very Inspirational!

I believe that the OWS rules say no wetsuit...

A shark cage dragging through the water makes a draft, making the swim easier,
so I believe they have different records for with and without.

her first attempt 30+ years ago was with a shark cage.

She wanted to do it without the additional help. A wetsuit would give her extra buoyance. The shark cage has to be towed or she would run into the end of it. Towing a cage gives her unnatural momentum. Gotta admire her style.

Yea, 53 hours swimming 110 miles, all swollen and raw and she has the strength and determination to give us a message. She is truly an inspiration and scores the rank of TOTAL BADA$$. The endurance feat she just accomplished, after 4 failures, really blows my mind.

She is amazing, awesome, persistence, and determination all in one.

To think that the last night she didn't stop between midnight and daybreak to feed as it was so cold in the water that the team decided to just let her keep swimming as it would hopefully keep her warm - and then when she did actually stop to try and eat she couldn't keep anything down because of so much salt in her system.

i will run this through my mind again and again as I puke my way through the IMFL swim (I get dreadfully sea sick, even swimming).

a reporter covering the story said, "this is her Everest" uh, no, lots of people have summitted Everest, and you get to eat, sleep, and rest. what this is, is her Cuba to Florida swim.

"She's definitely a badass"

I'd say that she wins the badass contest.  Saw an interview with her on the news this morning.  She said that due to ingesting so much salt water, she was nauseated the whole time, and couldn't keep any food down. She spent most of the swim... throwing up.

I just can't image the mental fortitude that that requires.

I've been sitting here with a calculator, and I'm even more astounded. Someone. check my math please

110 miles in 53 hours = 2.07 miles per hour on average (110 / 53 = 2.07)

2.07 miles = 3642 yds per hour (2.07 * 1760 = 3642)

number of 100 yds per hour = 36.42 (3642 / 100 = 36.42)

so on average 1:39 per 100 yds

(60 minutes * 60 seconds = 3600 secs per hour / 36.42 = 98.84 seconds per 100 yds = 1:39 per 100 yds

Talk about bada$$

Calculated a differnt way...

110 miles is
580800 ft
193600 yds

1936 100 yd sets

53 hrs x 3600
190800 secs

98.55 sec/100 yds

1:38.55 per 100 yds.

Now at places she had significat current helping her.... but still wow...
