I am wanting to upgrade to a carbon bike and found this Cervelo for sale for $1500.
2008 Cervelo P3C, Dura Ace kit, FSA SLK Light Carbon Fiber crank. Reynolds wheel set.
Does anyone know this year model and is it a good buy or should I buy newer?

Thanks

What are you upgrading from? and what are your competition goals? The Cervelo is a great deal if it meets those goals. The deep-V wheels will provide an advantage over non-aero wheels; however, there are faster deep rim wheels out there.

I have an aluminum Specialized Aliez triple road bike with aero bars setup. I am looking for a good carbon bike that will serve me for awhile. I hope to gain a little more speed and efficiency. I have been looking at new bikes like the Cervelo P2 Ultega ($2,100) and the Specialized Shiv ($2,600)but thought maybe I could save a little money hear and get the upgrade to Dura Ace along with the carbon crank. I am just not sure about the difference in the 2008 frame and the 2014 frame.

A caution... Shiv's and P2's (at least the larger p2's) fit a LOT differently than a P3 does. A P3 is an awesome bike IF it works for you, but the best deal in the world is worthless if you have to shove 10 spacers under the stem to "make" the bike fit you.

So it sounds like maybe I need to visit my LBS and let them fit me on a P3 or just go with the P2 or Shiv?
They did a dry fit and told me I would be a 54 on the P2.
I don't want to buy online and find out its a wrong fit!

Just for reference the difference between a 54 p2, 54 p3 and a MED Shiv are

P2
Stack: 512
Reach: 418

P3
Stack: 498
Reach: 419

Shiv
Stack: 540
Reach: 405

If you were fit on a 54 P2 (correctly) you'd probably be fine on a 54 P3 (depending on how much drop you ended up with... if you are already sitting high on the P2 then the P3 won't work well without an upturned stem and some spacers)

The Shiv is a tougher sell... The reach is going to be pretty short unless you can fit on large (with 425 reach) but you're still going to be pretty high up in the air even with the medium.

All 3 probably *can* be made to work for you, but they are different enough that only 1 is going to be optimal.

Just my thoughts of course.

Wow Thanks

That helps me out. I will get back to the bike shop first before I Commit.

Thanks for your insight!

If you are a 56 on a road bike, would you be a 56cm on a P3?

Absolutely zero correlation! First, there's no such things as a standard when it comes to bike size denomination. A 56 from one brand may fit similar to a 54cm from another, a medium from a 3rd, large from a 4th, small from a 5th, 51cm from a 6th and so on. Second, even within the same brand going from a road bike to a tri bike there's a very good chance the same size denomination may NOT be the right option for you.
